Started the proscess almost 25 years ago to get a CMP Garand and finally got one. 1942 and 1944 vintage. Still love my Grendel...

I thought about selling my weapons back to the government, but after a thorough background check it was determined that the buyer has a long history of violence and is mentally unstable. Therefore could not pass NICS.

I'm sure you are aware that Garand actions have pressure considerations. They are much fun. I remember my Dad wanting to throw out a bunch of clips. I kept them. Nice score!

GB:

I thought the CMP ran out of them decades ago?

I got mine in the early 90's. Arsenal rebuilt. Bet it would bring in a good $2K today if I sold it.

They are all out except for what they call "Expert grade in 30-06". Expert grade is orginal reciever and parts that are concsidered serviceable and they go thru the rifle to make sure everthing works as its supposed to, then it gets a new stock and a new barrel. So these rebuilt M1s are all that they have available at this time. I guess I should have stated that the reason it took me 25 years to get one was because life took a nasty turn and I was just now able to to finish what I started 25 years ago. I am anxious to take it out to shoot it.....

I got my CMP M1 way back in 1976. Except for the gas cylinder, it looked like it had all new parts. Shoots great! Used it a couple of times in Service Rifle matches but I could shoot my M-1A way better cause that's what I was used to. Although, I think I could have eventually done OK with my Garand with enough practice. Love that "PING!"

I took a day trip during flight school to the CMP up at Redstone AL in 2013 to grab my garand. They still had a decent amount then but it think they went pretty quick after I got mine. Was neat to actually walk around the building and take a look at the different grades of rifles. They are fun to shoot too but since I have the 30-06 type still have to be careful with ammo.
