Not much to report this year so far. I shot a smallish (last years) doe to give to a buddy. He called and asked for a doe, and she showed up in the back yard about 20 minutes later.
I used my 14.5" Grendel with the Hornady factory Amax load. It was about a 50-60 yard broadside shot and the Amax opened up fine and dropped her right there. I never thought to take any pics.
I was back yard "hunting" because I'm still recovering from a ruptured appendix. I just about croaked and was hospitalized on V-Day against my own stupidity. Apparently a ruptured appendix isn't the same as the world's worst stomach virus, and you can't just wait to get better (me very stupid!).
Anywhoo, I've finally made it to my actual deer stand today, and I have 4 does, a button buck, and 3 turkeys out in front of me as I try to use this consarned crackberry to type this. Being alive is awesome, being able to walk to my stand is even more so, and actually having critters under you is cherries on top!

Dang, Variable, do you need some adult supervision to kick your ass when mortality is on the line??? VERY GLAD you're OK, bud, but geez, that's cuttin' 'er close. . . .

Glad you are OK, buddy. A ruptured appendix is a very dangerous thing.
Funny how stuff like that makes you aware that even a bad day when you are well is a blessing.

John Yeah, I was kinda a whole lot stupid, I thought it'd go away.LOL

Dang dude. Just make sure you include me in your will if you're gonna neglect yourself like that, provided there are no other NOK. If I inherit your NFA stuff, do I still have to pay the $200 for a Form 5??? Anyway, good to hear you're ok and passing on the reaper's visit to some unfortunate critters, rather than your hospital bed.

I'm afraid my 4 year old daughter has already laid out a fanatical claim to the entire gun room. Go figure, I bought guns for the boys (2 stepsons) and encouraged them-- Nothing, they couldn't care less about guns. I specifically said nothing and gave no real encouragement to my 4yr old, and voila, she is certifiably hard core. The wife still gapes in amazement. It's definitely genetic!
Her first pick was my Colt LMG, the little stinker. God bless her! . She wanted to go hunting this year and I told her she wasn't old enough yet... She waited until I left for work and then marched up to her mom with hands on hips and declared that she'd build her own gun then, and go hunting by herself!
I kind of hamstrung myself with the NFA stuff. I form 4'ed and form 1'ed everything in my name since a CLEO signoff was always so easy here. Now I really wish I'd gone the NFA trust route so my daughter could use the stuff easier later. If my overtime ever comes back (toy fund!) I'm going to look much harder at the NFA trust route going forward.

Well, if you didn't know it was a ruptured appendix, then you weren't really stupid, you were just ignorant. 
Am also very glad you got to the hospital in time, and that you seem well on the way to full recovery.
P.S. Nice to be able to "hunt" in your back yard... 
How would you expect to reconise a ruptured appediex if you never had one before? Glad your still with us. I started taking my daughter into the woods to look for sign around 4 y/o. Started hunting wih her sitting in my lap around 6. Man those were good days. Around 9 y/o she was big enough to carry her own Grendel. Now..she is 15 and sees, hears shoots and fights better then me. I'm a better hunter though She just sits there pretending to be full of teenage angst in her blind texing boya and pretending to hunt. Enjoy the family. It's good when you can keep connecting to your kids as they grow up.

Yeah I was just ignorant I'd say, but now if anything is ever that excruciating again I'm going in without waiting a couple of days to see if it'll go away.LOL
Back Yard: I try not to "hunt" there, because it's too easy, but I do have quite a lot of traffic cruising through there between the fields across the road and the bedding areas behind my property. I don't usually see much in the way of decent bucks at the house, so I usually hunt on my brothers farm where my odds are better.

True, I wondered (for about 2 minutes) if it could be my appendix, but then discounted it because it wasn't localised on my right front side. I was having generalized pain throughout my abdomen and horrible cramps there and in my lower back. I couldn't figure out what it was. My fever was 103.7 w/lots of ibuprofen etc. When the wife hauled me in to the hospital I don't know what it was then. I went from pale blue to what everyone said was a bonafide grey in color by the time I got there. I was infected clear through from my diaphragm to my pelvis and they could hardly get a urine sample because my kidneys/UT were infected too. It basicaly sucked all 'round.
PSA #1: If anyone reading this ever has really bad pains in your gut-- go see a doc.
PSA #2: If you are ever put on IV Flagyl(Metranidazole) and get horribly nauseous and puke whenever food even goes past your door--- that's a clue that it's probably the Flagyl....LOL I had a bunch of other drugs (which I tried blaming) but that one was the winner in the end. Start new drip = nausea followed by puke. Horrible taste, staining, even smell sensitivity. Couldn't take a whiz without getting sick (once off catheter) from the Flagyl caused stench. What a hoot!LOL
PSA #3: The doc pulling the drain tubes out of your guts? Wowzer, that was... exhillarating!!!LOL
Hunting with your daughter: Sounds like you did it right! I hope to enjoy it too! I'm trying not to even think about the future occurence of the teenage years. I'm just trying to really enjoy the "right now" part.LOL I hate to even think of her growing up when she's such an awesome pleasure right now!!!

Glad you made it. They say for every day in the hospital you have a weeks worth of recovery. So don' t expect to be 100% right away. I get out of the VA tomorrow. Oh, and I stll have not figured out how to cook horns, lol. Fortiunately I got my deer b4 surgery. Two with the Grendel and 123 gr. AMAC.
OPS 123 gr AMAX. Don't know how these kids type so gast on these little droids.

You said you are just getting out of the VA? I hope you are doing well and will recover fast also!
I know what you mean about typing on these little phones. I'm not that tech savvy, and my internet access is sporadic at best these days.
