Lost in the AR world

I've been researching for weeks now for the best components for the money to do my first AR build. Highly interested in 6.5 grendel and already have a couple "Spikes Tactical" lowers. It seems like the more I research, the more confused I get... this stuff seems to be overly complex (couple eye twitches). I would love to be able to shoot accurately out to 500 so the MOA factor is very important, but I'm also on somewhat of a tight budget ($1,000) which may not be realistic. Is it possible to build a precise yet dependable AR on that budget, and if so, what would the best components be? I've been looking at the Satern barrels which eats half my budget. How difficult would it be to get everything else (minus optics) for the other half? Should I go cheaper on the barrel? It seems like that's that's the most important component but there again, I could be way off.

You should absolutely spend as much money on your barrel as is feasible for your budget. And a nice trigger. Many forum members like the La Rue MBT.

IMHO, the most overpriced component in an AR build is the handguard/rail. My favorite rail has been discontinued. I'm sure others will jump in with suggestions.

I'm really loving the aero atlas s-one rails. Light compact lock up great and strong.

Don't do business with satern/liberty there is no telling what you will get. I would get Mark at Precision firearms to make me a barrel from one of his criterion blanks to my likeing. He also gives a one time first order new member discount.

You stated 500 yards. Is that playing on steel? Hunting? Paper punching?

The Larue mbt is the only trigger I would suggest without first hand knowledge. My choice would be the ssa-e but the Larue will help safe some cash for the barrel are scope.

i’ve built a very accurate AR on a $1000 budget.I picked up a BCA Grendel upper for $225. Sold the barrel. Got a custom Bartlein heavy barrel and a troy .936 low profile gas block.Both for $500.PSA MOE lower for $150. And you’ll still have enough to get a Larue two-stage trigger.

Thank for the info A5BLASTER, I will mostly be shooting 4-legged creatures out to 500 yards, no steel or paper punching. I'm gonna check out those aero atlas s-one rails

Barrel/trigger/optics that's where the money should go. The rest, mil-spec when appropriate. The barrel is the hardest, unless you spend a ton of money, they are a crap shoot. You can get a tack driver or a lemon. You don't know untill you shoot it. Triggers, I agree, for the money Larue is an excellent choice. Optics, there are some very good budget scopes. So bottom line your biggest pay off is the homework you do on the barrel.

For hunting a pre fit Wilson or Criterion barrel would work..For around $300 you can have it delivered within a week. There are also many other pre fit quality barrels out there.
