So even though Ive built 7-8 AR rifles sometimes this process is humbling. I just bought a 18 inch premium barrel. Barrel arrived today and looks very nice. Did a once over and wiped packing cosmoline from barrel. After lapping my upper I placed barrel in the receiver checking fitment. Everything appeared GTG until I tried to tighten barrel nut. The barrel nut would tighten until it contacted the barrel index pin. Tried another barrel nut and no go. Checked height of index pin on the barrel and its about .015 higher than previous barrel. From barrel extension measures .115-.116
So.. Ive had issues with the manufacturer before and was hesitant buying another barrel from them. Can you file the index pin or is there anything I can do? This was the last barrel in stock!

Yes, you can file the pin. It's only there to index the barrel.
Give it a tap with a hammer first. It may not have been tapped in far enough.

Look on the bright side, you knew enough to stop and check that something wasn't right Vs gorilla it on and wreck the nut and the upper.

Tried tapping it in and she wont budge. Will try filing it down.

Update..
Going to return to Ballistic Advantage and/or hopefully be able to return barrel for credit.
Im really hoping that Right to Bear will treat me right. As far as Ballistic Advantage and their quality control or lack there of. Im done with them and will never recommend any of their products. Which is really unfortunate because the Aero Precision products I have (numerous uppers/lowers and hand guards) have been high quality. Time to move on.

Sorry to read this, The only consolation I can offer is I have had good dealings with Right To Bear in the past and I hope they treat you right. As for the manufacturer I agree with you and would leave their barrels on the shelf and move on to a better barrel builder, Good luck

Sorry to hear. Stuff can happen, this is the first one for BA I've heard about (there might be others - just not heard about them), and not trying to talk you out of your decisions. I have 4 of them and they all are fine.
Hope you find the barrel you're looking for.
Mark at PF has some uppers and stuff on sale right now, plus there's Brownell's with some Criterion barrels...
