Young Y/M NM carrier ?

Figured I have my Grendel about where I want, and like it, I thought I'd swap out carriers to see what kind of groups I can get out of my new to me, PSA 18" Stainless barrel.
It also has a titanium firing pin.
Anyone ever tested a Young against a plain Jane carrier ?

Depends on when it was made and how the tolerance stack interfaces with your upper receiver.

At one time, they were made with larger OD to the carrier rails for better consistency with concentricity with how the bolt goes into battery, vs a sloppy (more reliable) mechanical parts articulation.

If you had an upper with a carrier raceway on the tighter side due to the anodizing and any number of vendors who don't even know what the Mil-Std call-outs are, let alone care to follow them, then dropped the Young's NM carrier in them, you would get sluggish carrier velocity and failures to extract or eject with a gun that short-cycles.

It just depends on how your parts mate up.

If you're looking to improve accuracy, it's better to do a detailed rifle accuracy checklist, starting with a square receiver face, quality barrel extension and barrel bedded into the upper, with the gas block sealed tight to the journal, and no binding with the gas tube in the carrier key.

Balance out the torque on the barrel nut depending on your barrel weight. Too tight or loose has been shown to affect accuracy in AMU gunsmith experiments with large sample sizes and all other variables tightly controlled.

Check torque balance on all your fasteners for the scope mount and rings with everything done according to the manufacturer's specs.

Drop in a good trigger like the LaRue MBT-2S and use some match ammunition fired from a settled-in rest using more rearward pressure on the rifle into your chest than you would with a .223 AR following solid fundamentals, and if you do all of the above, you will have a very accurate rifle.

A quality barrel mated tightly to the receiver is the biggest factor in your results. Don't have high expectations for mass-produced barrels and uppers assembled in volume-based profit model factories.

You have a nice set up there and the YM bolt carrier would be a nice addition but as stated above it it not going to make it any more accurate, maybe slicker but not more accurate.
I have about 5 of their BCGs, including 2 of their lightweights and have been very pleased with the fit, finish and quality. They were just a really well made part that was going into some really nice well made guns. I have never had an issue with any of them and I do like them but then I also like JPs stuff.
