You've said this a few times. Matt from LSI posted pictures of a mini in a chassis with a new 10-round magazine. Do you have some kind of inside information?

I don't get the appeal of this. If you want a light 3-round hunting gun then just do a regular top feed blind magazine in the stock. If you just like the way it looks then get one???

No he didn't ever list pics of a howa 1500 mini in a chassis. He posted pics of 6.5 grendel handloads in the new mag. But the kicker is the new mag was never intended for the mini action.

It is only for the short actions not the mini, never has been never will be.

Inside info!! Nope I just pay attention to details and the mini has been on the market better part of 2 years and yet howa/legacy hasn't changed anything. Even though since word go people have wanted flush fit bottom metal and mags, blind floor mag setups. Yes even top load setup as well.

They aren't going to change the specs are design simple as that. If they were they would have thrown a grendel follower in a short action blind floor action setup just like they did for the 223 on the 1500 short action.

Don't get me wrong the howa grendel is nice and I love mine, after I have bought every aftermarket part made for it to get rid of as much plastic as possible.

It's simple if the 223 can run out if a 1500 short action and mini action, then can't howa/legacy do the same for the grendel, they can but they wont. Why? Because not one bolt action gun company takes the grendel seriously as a hunting rifle.

Ok rant over going back to my cave lol.

This shows the two together. They look like different lengths to me.

Yep and it still isn't mag for the howa mini. Don't believe me call oryx since that's the chassis the mag was made for. Ask them what mag their mini chassis use's.

I already know what they will tell you. But your free to still call them and get the same info you have been given here.

The action is too small for that mag, it won't fit in the action.

Here is a picture from the LSI website (and their catalog) showing a mini in a chassis with a big magazine:

I don't know what to tell you sir. Oryx has already told me twice this week that the chassis for the mini action will only work with the Howa polymer mag that comes with the rifle.

You can call them if you like. Maybe the person I talked too doesn't know anything about there own product. Stranger things have happened.

But let me add this, that mag is designed too give close or just over 2.400 coal room for handloads inside the mag and feed. The action isn't big enough to fit that size of mag.

The way it's made it has just enough room to fit the mag it comes with.

Your free to call them and ask them and you can call legacy as well. That's what I did and do when I have a product question. Both company's said the same thing the first time I called and said the same thing the 2 times I called this week.

The howa mini action and the new oryx chassis will use the factory supplied mag.

The picture in the catalog (page 4) shows one of the short action Howa's in the Oryx chassis. One can tell because on the right side of the picture is written " *STD Short Action shown". Also, if you look at the opening for the action for the Mini on page 13, it looks substantially smaller than the action opening on the Oryx page (and has the front release Mini magazine).

I have two howa minis. Both receivers are nearly identical. Both receivers have an opening on the bottom that is roughly 2.5" long. A properly designed magazine could feed rounds 2.5" long through these receivers without modifications to the receivers. This is substantially longer than what the standard howa magazine allows and substantially shorter than what an AICS magazine allows. Thus the pictures posted are of a "medium" magazine that is bigger than the standard howa mini and smaller than an AICS. There was a thread here where all of this was already discussed, but perhaps it was deleted for some reason?

The picture I posted above is a howa mini, in a chassis, with a big magazine. Can you see the picture? Yes, they also make a chassis for the short actions that uses AICS magazines, as well as for other brands of receivers. The new "medium" magazine we're talking about is not the small original mini magazine. This new one allows a longer cartridge, it allows more cartridges, it has the catch at the rear, etc. It is not an AICS magazine, and it is not the original magazine, and is not compatible with either type floor plate or chassis and requires a new one made to fit it. This is what Matt @ LSI was describing.

Are we all on the same page now?

Nope your still not listening and your still lost.

I know all too well about the thread that was taken down when we were discussing this new mag, I had several reply's on it myself.

Then the oryx can out, I called both company's BOTH company's told me then. It will still only use the the plastic factory mag that comes with the rifle is what both company's told me.

Last week when I started having issues with my boyd's stock on my howa mini grendel I called both company's again asking questions. Called both company's twice last week and again both company's told me the new polymer mdt mag is not for the mini action. They said the new polymer mdt mag will not fit the action.

I have a howa mini grendel and unless they redesigned the action size since I ordered my barreled action in December there is now way your fitting that polymer mdt mag into the length of the action.

I know I messured mine several times.

As I already stated, I don't know what too tell you sir.

Maybe the people I have talked too at BOTH company's are complete idiots and have not a single clue about their own products and it's compatibility with other products.

Now if I'm wrong I am more then happy too be wrong. Why? Because I want this mag length they have in the mdt mag.

But I will say this one more time, instead of relieing on internet pics that can very easly be faces for marking hype. How about you call them and ask for yourself.

That's what I did and I already gave you the info I was given by both company's more then once already.

Ok so if anybody would like too contact Oryx and get the same info on what mag that the new mini oryx chassis will use.

The man to talk with at Oryx is Ryan.

He said they were developing a new polymer mag for the mini but couldn't get it to work in time for the unveiling of the mini oryx chassis so they shelved it for now.

He also went on too say that the new oryx chassis for the mini action will indeed use the factory mag.

And had no comment on the pic on legacy website but did reconfirm that the new oryx mini chassis does indeed use the factory mag.

Now I'm moving on from this as it's become a argument. Members can contact Oryx by email or phone from their contact info on their site and request the same info I have.

Good day gents.

I swear I saw a disclaimer the MINI used factory mags on the legacy or Oryx sites. Can't find it now.

You are correct. I contacted them a short while back too because I had purchased this Howa Mini barreled action. They informed me as well that the Howa Mini fitment will have to use the factory mag. Its a shame too because I wanted to use this rifle for the occassional local PRS match. 6.5 Grendel would be perfect for some of the shorter distance matches out to 600 yards. Alas those matches require 10 round mags to be competitive in some of the stages. Oh well. Someone needs to make a larger aftermarket Howa Mini mag. In the end I ended up just ordering a Boyd’s stock.

You can pretty easily turn the factory Howa 5 round mag into a 7 round mag.

I'd probably get one of these if I didn't already have a 6.5 Creedmoor on the way. It'll be the 3rd Howa rifle I've built up. Did the heavy .300 win mag and .308 heavy prior to this upcoming one. These things are steal of a deal.

Here is my Howa mini 6.5. I bought the barreled action and build the stock from a Boyd’s blank. The mag is modified also (not shown in the pictures). I only shoot off the bench, by push feed method, didn’t need a mag hanging down. It’s a really good shooter. 120 gr Sierra hp, with 25.3 gr of H335.
