Is there any benefit or good reason to,upgrade to a high price Charging Handle?

What are the benefits of some of the higher priced charging handles. I can see getting ambidextrous use what's else.
If you upgraded from your stock handle share what you bought and why please.

Some are designed to mitigate gas blowback when using a suppressor.

Others have non milspec features (ambidextrous, oversized latch, etc) that can make the rifle more user-friendly and efficient.

I would say that about 75% of that extra price is simply because it looks really cool. It's a vain reason to pay extra for a charging handle but we all want rifles that are attractive to our own eye. Nothing wrong with that.

Used a joebobs nonrecriprcating left side side charging upper on my 20 inch build for the only reason I didn't want to break cheek weld while reloading a and charging the rifle.

In manual operation you can get a hand on each side to get more force or left hand on one side and 2x4 hit on right side. No mortaring necessary.

The main reasons for buying an upgraded charge handle are:

* Scope ocular piece clearance on some rifle/optic/mount configurations
* Increased strength for fighting carbines when doing malfunction clearance or fast CH reloads
* Ambidextrous handles for left hand use
* Better ergonomic interface compared to standard CH shape
* The gas issue with suppressors comes more from the chamber, but charge handles with occlusion of suppressor-induced gas date back to Vietnam

Beware of 6061 aluminum charge handles as they are more failure-prone.

A good 7075T6 handle will be much stronger, especially if you have to mortar.

A better CH can make for very easy one-side operation. Meaning you don't have have to grab the "T" on both sides. I guess this fits into 52's "Better Ergonomics" category.

I have a couple of BCM CHs. I never bothered to measure them, but there is something about them that makes them operate more smoothly than a standard CH. But those BCMs are pretty expensive. I couldn't afford to buy them for all my uppers. So at the very least, for my standard CHs I swap the latches out for this PRI type. I LOVE these things.

Clearance around a scope is my first reason for a larger latch. Ambi isn't my first preference. Pick a quality mfg and run with it. Granted, it won't make your barrel shoot better or your trigger feel smoother.

I use gunfighter medium charging handles, they are good for one handed charging, especially when wearing gloves. Been hunting in subzero weather and it sure made it easier to rack the bolt with heavy winter gloves on. Also I think it would make it easier to clear a jam using one hand as well.

I run or used to run Badger extended latches, strike Industries, Raptor, Geissele Super and several knockoff raptors from Henderson Defense, Stag, and a gun show find. I prefer the ambi handles and if you run a forward assist it has stick out to clear.

The Badger latch sticks out the most, best for big scopes & big gloves. Also the most likely to snag on something.

Strike Ind. is well made for the price and has a nice lip for gas management, not ambi.

The gun show clone has gotten loose and doesn’t use std. roll pins, was gonna try to fix it but just replaced it with a $15 Stag clone, will see how long it lasts. I just picked up the Stag last Black Friday.

The Henderson Defense has only been on for a year but seems to be holding up well. It’s made of 7075 aluminum like the pricey name brand ones. About $20 when I got mine.

Price aside, the Geissele is my favorite, good shape good feel and a good gas mgmt. lip.

Strike Industry's latchless design is pretty nice. I got one on a whim and found it to be a great product. It is totally ambi and won't wear the upper. I was skeptical at first but for $30 bucks I gave it a try in an effort to vent some gasses. It does pretty good.

As a lefty, a milspec CH is a pita to manipulate with a scope, but I run them on all my uppers primarily because I'm a cheap-ass. However... Geissele had their CHs on sale for $50 this past Black Friday. Picked up a couple ACH and wow, what a HUGH improvement running it from the right side. Didn't know what I had been missing. Don't think I'll ever buy one full price, but there's always Black Fri 2019!

Big time. To get the right eye relief on my 3-9 i have on my 450 Bushmaster it has to sit pretty far back. I moved on of my Sintercore Tripwires to that upper and it made all the difference. I hope he starts manufacturing them again in the future. It's been my favorite CH to date.
