Not feeding with fresh magazine

I’m having a problem when the BCG is locked back and I insert a new loaded mag. If I press the bolt release it will not pick up a round and chamber it. I have to use the charge handle and pull all the way back and let go to chamber the first round. The BCG seems to be resting to far forward when locked back. What can I do to fix this issue?

Check to see if the bolt catch is in fact riding up and catching the front of the bolt face and not the bottom of the carrier. Ck to see if the brass is catching on the front lip of the mag when it starts to push forward. What brand of mags?

My money is also on the bolt catch is locking on the carrier. Either over gassed or under gassed.

Thanks guys. Yes, it was catching on the carrier not the bolt. It has an adjustable gas block and was under gassed.
