My dad wants a 6.5 Grendel bolt gun. He is left handed. What action to build on?????

I saw the title "Need Help" with no replies and thought I would try and help. However, I know nothing of left handed short actions.

No help on your question here either but if you add some more info in your thread title I know someone will know the answer. Good luck.

edit- The CZ 527 comes in a left hand .223. A gunsmith might be able to open the bolt and make it work for you. Just depends on how much you want to spend.

Savage, easiest to barrel, easiest to headspace and to build in a bolt gun. try savageshooters forum, theres a lot of info there and a few barrel companies will sell you a savage kit to do it yourself.

Buy him a lefty Zastava in 7.62x39 and rebarrel it. Failing that, look at the Savage - but they are a bit big for the cartridge IMHO.

Is money an issue? If not, look at Bat Machine Custom Actions. Their actions are based off Rem 700s, been looking at them myself but $1200 is a lot of coin to drop on just an action. As mentioned previously The Savage actions are an excellent choice, just not sure how easy the lefties are to come by.

Nesika also makes high quality custom actions, I have not checked on price though.

Savage has stopped offering their 10 FCM in 7.62x39 (which is what I based my build off of)...I would follow ^^ advice.

If you choose Savage, you'll have to get a PPC bolt head and their 7.62x39 DBM to go along with Grendel barrel. Actually, I have a spare 7.62x39 bolt head for Savage I could sell you if you want to go this route.

The "natural" actions for Grendels are the micro actions. Those would be the CZ527 and the Zastava/Remington799.MiniMkX. Both those actons come in left hand. The bolt face needs to be the same as a 7.62 x 39. That said, I would guess any L handed short action like the remington model 7 or 700, Savage etc would do..as long as you could find the proper bolt face. I know all of the above have been converted..at least to right handed. IMO I think the CZ is a little better fitted and finished then the rest; and the Remington has more after market parts and smiths.

If a Savage action is how the OP decides to roll, and BjornF16 hooks him up with a bolt, BHW is now making .264 LBC barrels for the Savage receiver. At ~$300, they are a great value.

Sounds like all the pieces are on the board, now. Time to consider a move, don't you think?

Where would one acquire one of these Czech wonders and a GRENDEL barrel? I may look into one myself for a lightweight backup....I'm assuming they are built on a mini mauser action. Are they brought in by Century? I sometimes take newer hunters into the woods and would like a reliable lightweight backup, currently I'm using a 243 Savage Axis. I'd think a lightweight GRENDEL and a 1-4x30 scope would be the ticket for a fast knockdown if they fumbled the shot.

I'm a leftie and use normal right-hand action bolt guns. Personally it is no handicap. With auto loaders there are issues with where the safety catch, mag release, slide locking lever is but there are enough ambi devices now that this is not really an issue.

When prone with a bolt gun I find it is helpful to be able to see into the breech using a right hand action and easy to load single rounds through the ejection port. Perhaps not so safe if something blows up but touch wood that will never happen.

A Grendel in a micro action will be light enough that he can hold the gun with his trigger hand into the shoulder while cranking the bolt.

What I'm saying is by all means explore left-hand actions but as a leftie I actually prefer right-hand actions.

My Belle needs a left hand action. I wonder what it would take to get them to build 6.5 Grendel barrels. check out the LUX section of the catalog.

get a custom rifle from GA Precision... then you will have a tack driver. or get the sweet 6.5 SAUM
