I think the bottom sentence in the article says it all:

REI, the national outdoor retailer, suspended all orders from Vista in March after it refused to say if it would continue to manufacture weapons.

There are plenty of other places we can buy our hiking boots, water bottles and backpacks.

I think it's safe to say firearms manufacturers need to be either a "pure play" or in private hands. Maybe Ruger can buy Savage and teach them how to make a decent rifle :p

If you read that again it says REI wouldn’t buy because Vista wouldn’t commit to REI. Further research on other articles indicate that REI is not buying from them because they wouldn’t committ to “common sense” gun control measures and because they sell “modern sporting rifles.” See ya REI!

Anytime I see the words "common sense" it tells me exactly where it comes from and what measures are in it. In other words it spells GUN GRAB and progressive liberal objectives cloaked within.

Yes -- this time there is no hype or lying. REI has always been liberal but aside from pushing environmental issues, they have stayed out of divisive social issues.

REI claims they had a on line petition of 18,000 demanding they make some sort of anti gun statement and so they did. They call for 'common sense' gun control measures, once again not saying what these measures should be. Typical leftist and liberal, make a statement that sounds good but do not say what it entails. That's because if they ever said what it entails, most Americans would reject their ideas.

Have been a Co Op member for about ten years now.

They have a theme for 'Black Friday'. 'Opt Out', they call it, and they close their doors that day and encourage everyone to enjoy the outdoors instead of shopping malls or internet shopping. Personally, I have been doing this exact thing for many years before REI coined their slogan.

Guess I will now 'Opt Out' of REI and I encourage anyone else who is a gun owner and REI Co Op member to do the same. I will not do business with them again, no matter their cost.

Take my word for it, the Board of Directors of REI wouldn't need convincing to openly make an anti gun political statement part of their business model. They are all liberals.

I accept it when I used to buy from them because they had a good way of staying out of divisive political issues. However, the use of the term 'common sense gun control' is taken directly from the Finesteins and Shumers of the world and we know very well what this means. That we, the law abiding gun owner will be the ones that will be the ones who will be adversely effected by their 'register / ban / confiscate', 'common sense gun control'.

I also bet REI has no clue how many Co Op members are probably like us here and will just go somewhere else to buy our outdoors gear.

No big deal. I can find the things I want from other places that know better than to make political issues part of their business model.
