first grendel build

So I had a 20" 223 AR that I was wanting to change from an SPR to an open sight CMP style rifle. This would free up my free float handguard and 3-10 weaver tactical scope. So decided to make my long range AR a grendel. Got in on the Blackhole 20" stainless barrel sales. Got it all together and got to test some ammo today.

Upper:
BCM uper receiver, bolt carrier, and charging handle
Apex gator grip 15" free float tube
Blackhole Stainless 1:8 standard contour barrel
Kaw Valley linear comp
Primary Arms deluxe scope mount
Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10 scope through midway
Lower:
Aero precision lower receiver
Magpul moe stock, moe+ grip
Heavy rifle buffer

So got to try out some ammo, hornady sst and a-max, wolf 120 and ppu 120. Only shot enough to zero and get an idea of 5 shot group with each round. Plan is to find out what bullet the barrel prefers then reload for that load.

Amax .66"
SST 1.27"
Wolf 1.22"
PPU 1.18"
will be fun tuning rounds for this rifle.

Looks like it loves those Amax's right now, but I'm sure you can tune it up a little more, with some reloads. Welcome to the site.

Forgot to mention that I was using a 10 rd pmag and it held 6 grendel rounds. It did start to swell but since the majority of the mag is contained in the magwell, the swelling wasn't a problem. Figure this mag will work fine for hunting until I get specific mags.

Looks like your plan worked out great. I have been shooting further than I ever dreamed since getting the 6.5 Grendel and I have actually hit the target. This is just a different strain of the black rifle desease (which is contagious) but it sure is fun.
