Hi the hoard, I when to check zero before heading out tonight (fallow deer bucks are back in season). I shot this group and I am very happy with it standard 123 SSTs.

The trouble was I was aiming at this diamond full 12 inches above the POI.

I have no idea what the feck has happened there thats over one full turn of the elevation turret. No one has had access to the rifle perhaps I have pixies in my safe.
Thank you hunting Gods for getting me to check before I went out as the result would have been a horridly injured deer.

The joys of suppressors. That's my guess. Either that or your elevation turret was turned.

LRRPF52, It was zeroed with the mod on, It had not been out of my hands since I last shot it. You are right it had been turned I just can't work out how.

Do you have zero stop? I have zero stop on all my scopes for that reason, and use it all the time.

One full turn, as you said.
I once missed all 6 targets of a Sporting Rifle Match stage because while dialing down the elevation from the previous stage I stopped one complete revolution short. I kicked myself that day.
Like 52' says a zero-stop is a handy piece of kit, especially at night.

I am uncertain about Vortex' policy on overseas sales, but they helped me out on replacements. I lost the shims for one my Vortex scopes and called them. The next day, a packet of free shims were in the mail.

Been there before and learned that lesson. ...only with wind drift knob instead. Forgot to reset it to zero after a shooting session. I now check my knobs everyone I go out in the field. And check my zero frequently.

I was out again tonight the bucks that were all over the place in July have vanished.
I have solved the mystery on the turret shift. I have been in a hurry/lazy taking the rifle out of my fleece lined slip. I have been just undoing the top and dragging the rifle out catching the turret. How did I find this I did it again tonight, this time I could hear the turret turn. Lesson learnt, every day is a school day.

Yeah - that same action cost me an easy 100 yard shot on a song dog because the windage and elevation turrets on my M223 scope do NOT lock, while the much less relevant side focus does. This says something about scopes without tactical turrets possibly being better suited for hunting.

Just my opinion, but I prefer scopes with capped turrets for hunting.
1. Tactical turrets stick out further and are more likely to catch on something.
2. Caps add another layer of protection against the elements and rocks.
3. Most likely, I will not have time to adjust elevation before I need to get a shot off, so I am not planning on needing to.
Just my two cents. My Nikon Monarch does have finger adjustable turrets with MOA markings, so I can dial elevation if I want to while target shooting.
