Another What Scope Should I Get Thread?

I want a good scope for bench shooting, mostly 200yds and got it narrowed down to the Vortex Crossfire 4-16x50(around $280) or the 6-24x50(around $300). My primary reason for these scopes are; 30mm tube, I already have a Larue Mt for it and cost. Plenty of power either way. My question, for the extra $20 I can get the 24x, is that too much power?

Spend the extra $20.00 and get the 24X model. I doubt you will use 24X because it may be a bit too much at 200 but I guarantee you that 6X will be too little. So, you are covered with the 6 - 24 X. I do not think you will like being limited to 16X for your purposes.

Yeah I would opt for more power, then again I tend to overscope my rifles. I like being able to see 22/223 hits on paper @ 200yrds and 24x works great for that.

What he said ^^^. My Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 ended up getting upgraded to a 6-24x50. Scope enough for 750+ yards.

For load development shooting at 200 yards, I usually way-overpower (with a 40x or 50x power) so I can really nail down the same POI - as long as mirage is not acting up during the session. For "practical" shooting or even long range prairie dog hunting, I put my Vortex 6-24 x 50 FFP on my rifle. Granted the FFP version is much more than $300 and if you are primarily shooting at the same known fixed distance, then a FFP scope is not necessary. But certainly as the others have stated, the extra magnification for only $20 more is an easy decision. I love my Vortex scopes, but for a good alternative to Vortex with similar optic quality (some say even better) and price, you might consider Sightron. If you go with the Vortex, DEFINITELY get the Switchview Throw lever. Both of my Vortex scopes have REALLY difficult to adjust magnification rings. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vort...lever-sv-1

Yesterday I bought the Vortex Crossfire II 6-24x50 for $300 at Cabelas. Looks like a very nice scope but we'll see how it works out at the range. Now all I have to finish my bench/target upper.
