Scope selection for Dad

I'm trying to help my Dad select a scope for his new AR .223. Hopefully you guys can help guide me.

He doesn't want an Eotech style, he prefers the look of a traditional scope. He wants something with an illuminated and or holographic reticle. His AR is setup just for fun, so he wants to stay under $200 or close to it. His AR has a detachable carry handle, so one that replaces that would be ok, but he wants to retain the option of using the carry handle. He wants to have some magnification also.

He found a NC Star Mark III 3-9x42mm that he thinks meets all his criteria, but I don't anything about that brand/model.

Is anyone familiar with this scope or know of something else that will meet his needs?

Whatever you do, pl,ease do not buy anything made by that company, they make crap.

Under $200 for scope with mount?

Try a Vortex Red dot, they are 2x power.

Also cheap but usable is the Tasco 2.5-10x Mildot illuminated reticle http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/it...09TG21042I

It will not win any beauty contest nor even come close to a Vortex PST, but it will work, get him a nice mount for it that cantilevers over so that the scope does not obstruct the charging handle and you have proper eye relief.

How about a Primary Arms 1-4X 24 Illuminated Scope? You can even get it with your choice of mount for well under the $200 mark.

I have a couple and everyone I know that has one, likes it. Internet research says it is the same scope as the Millet DMS with different reticle. The company has great customer service too. It's a lot of fun shooting steel with it. As soon as the dot appears on the plate, shoot!

When I finish my Grendel pig gun, that's what I plan to put on it.
