Best Lower?

Either are GREAT Lowers with the ambi-release built in. One Great thing about the Phase 5 is the Ambi Bolt Latch open feature. Both the Seekins and Mega are only for releasing the bolt but when you use it to lock the bolt back, open, that's the ticket. I use it all the time when charging a round or just want my bolt back, none of this dis-contorted pull it back and trying to manipulate the bolt catch. Easy one step with the right hand on the grip and charge it with your free left hand....

The Phase 5 latch works great on the 5.56 Seekins receiver. I also tested it with the Grendel mags and that works great as well, so I ordered a second latch.

Glad you got one and ordered another after and testing it with the Seekins lower and Grendel Mag. I didn't understand why it might not work but now we know it works for sure.

Truly! Of all the simple pieces of metal, the Magpul B.A.D. lever is my favorite accessory—and it does not fit our Seekins lowers :-(

On our Seekins Grendel, the length of the projection on their standard bolt release lever interferes with release and hold-open. They make a special order bolt release lever that has solved those problems, but it does not fit the B.A.D. lever.

I have been eyeing the B.A.D. lever and the metal file in my tool chest, but have not yet laid hand to task.

I ran into this problem also with my MEGA side charging upper. I had grown so accustom to the B.A.D. lever I didn't want to go without it. This was long before I knew about the Phase 5 lever so my solution was to mill a small amount of material so the B.A.D. lever would fit.



I have received the PSA lowers I mentioned and they look great. They were sold as "blemished" but I couldn't find anything I would call blemishes. I also recently purchased a 80% polymer lower from polymer80.com for a lightweight build for my daughter. I have not started it yet but initial impressions are good. I'll post pics of it as we make progress on it. This will be her rifle that she will build (under my close supervision of course).

Be careful the lighter you go the more recoil will be felt. I've seen a lot of people going in this direction not realizing recoil is often the biggest deterrent for kids and women new to the sport, until it's to late.

After you milled the pocket area I can see it is black again. What did you finish it with? Did you paint the entire upper or get a anodizing touch up kit?

The second set of Phase 5 products arrived and work fine on our SAC/Seekins Grendel AR.

Thanks for the concern. I do have several things in mind if it is a problem. Butt pad, reduced loads (probably would require porting the barrel & an adjustable gas block), etc. It will probably have my .22 kit it in most of the time anyway. My suppressor does a good job of killing the recoil also.

I checked 3 of my stripped blem uppers and two were at least 80-90% true and the third was at least 75% true. Appears it is just the anodizing that got a little thick. Other than that, they were all tight fit to my palmetto state armory lowers.
