LRRPF52's long post on CWs OP discussed hollow points versus hard cast bullets in black bears…the guide liked hollow points better.

Would the Buffalo Bore 155 TAC-XP (deep hollow point, all copper bullet) be a good choice? I had previously carried Corbon 200 grain flat nose.

It is possible since the all-copper expanding bullets tend to penetrate rather deeply for their weight when compared to traditional expanding bullets.

My concern is that the 155 gr TAC-XP sounds like a bullet optimized for defensive purposes. That suggests making as large a hole as possible just deep enough. "Just deep enough" for a human adversary may not be 'deep enough' for large carnivores.

In any event, there is likely test data available on the www. One could try searching to see what folks have learned. If the TAC-XP penetrates about as deeply or deeper than the 200 gr flat point, you have a good choice.

If you like analog pistol round physics...the .460 Rowland conversion might just be the best semiauto choice for that purpose.

Here is what BB website says about their 10mm 155 TAC-XP:

This is a full power 10MM load that is within SAAMI spec and is thus safe for use in ANY/ALL 10mm pistols. That's 675 ft-lbs at muzzle and 607 ft-lbs at 25 yards; 550 ft-lbs at 50 yards.

My "bear repellent" holds 15 rounds of 45ACP 230 grain JHP's. Hope I never have to find out how effective they are..
