This morning, on the way to the bathroom, I saw that the yard feeder light as on. Grabbed the binocs and had a look. Big old spotted hog was munching the deer corn. I snuck out the back door and blasted him with the Grendel (Wraith Mini night vision scope). The reason I mention this is because, prior to getting the Grendel, I shot them with a 223 and rarely found them. Shooting them with the Grendel, even with sloppy bullet placement, drops them in the yard. I use reloads with the 123 gr SST over H335.
I have a Grendel because a year or so ago, the grandson used my 223 AR to hog hunt, shot a big one 4 times and we still had to track him 200 yards the next morning. He said, at the time, Poppa, we need a gun with more grunt. The Grendel was acquired, and we have not lost a hog yet.
I was gonna switch to the Nosler 100 gr Ballistic Tip, except that they still cant be found. But, the 123 gr Hornady SST works so well, maybe Ill just forget about those Ballistic Tips.
Now I have to drag that big dead hog off to the boneyard. Might weigh him if he turns out to be real big.
