I started with Hornady and had mystery neck cracks in the first couple of firings. I annealed after that ever 3-4 firings and still have some of the first brass I bought still working just fine. I have bought Starline twice from SixFIiveOutfitters.com and got it fast. In my estimation with the loading of some 450 pieces of Starline brass it is better than Hornady brass. Nary a crack and have yet to anneal a single case. I will when I start seeing cracks.

I might have mentioned this before, but when I got a Grendel I needed ammo. Paid way too much for Hornady 123 gr SST rounds, but figured I’d have the brass for at least 5 reloads, so the price was somewhat justified. When I had shot a bunch of it, I reloaded 50 rounds with the SSTs. Of the 50 reloads, which had been fired only once prior, 49 of the cases had severe neck cracks. Some were splits and some were at the base of the case neck, almost all the way around. Never seen anything like that before. I’ll save all the Hornady brass when the ammo is used up, and I’ll anneal it and see if it has any life left. I now have Lapua and Starline new brass and will mostly use that in the second Grendel. The Hornady brass was a big disappointment.

I've been through large amounts of both (in the thousands). Starline is much more consistent in weight, i.e. more consistent case capacity. I've found Hornady to be at the bottom of the class in that respect across multiple calibers. Starline's weakness is loosening primer pockets while Hornady's is splitting necks. Makes it a bit of a choose your poison scenario. The consistent case capacity as well as cost make Starline the "lesser evil" to me since we don't really have a "premium" supplier these days.

Well we have lapua. I guess we have expected to see it off the shelves for so long we ignore that it's out there and available right now (check ammoseek)

Am I saying something that I shouldn't? It's not like hurting for lapua brass any time soon. The hoard went all mad scientist and I still have mine.

Got my batch of brass from six five....

With a primer in the cases. The starline weighs around 7.37gr. And the Hornady were 7.69gr.

The starline holds 2.44gr. Of LVR powder and the Hornady brass holds 2.45gr.

Both are new brass...shoulder and neck dimensions were almost identical.

I'm going on the assumption that my load will perform the same on the starline that I've been using in the Hornady.
