Temp Stable Powder for 110 Chaos...that's available
#1
Temp Stable-ish would be good. I am looking to develop a load for 110 Chaos.

With H4895, AR Comp, and 8208 basically unavailable unless you want to pay the $100 a pound on GunBroker, I am looking for a powder to try that is available. Maybe an Accurate or Vihtavuori.

I have a pound of H322 but wanted to save it for my tried and true 90 TNTs.

Any favorite load suggestions for this projectile are also greatly appreciated.

I have searched the forum but haven't seen any confirmed loads with readily available powders.

Powders are pretty easy to find now if you keep an eye on the big on line outfits like MidSouth, Nachez, Powder Valley, etc.

'Readily available' is a moving target. Not sure if I ever experienced a time where I was guaranteed to find the powder I wanted.

Problem with on line purchases is you pay the same HAZMAT for one pound or thirty and buying one pound of powder on line means doubling the price.

There is a posting on Texas Gun Trader selling IMR 8208 for $50, but it's by Houston if that isn't too far for you.

Several places are now doing hazmat included (not always exorbitant but yeah sometimes), and shipping is the only fee, or haz of $19.95 plus shipping. Besides, when you see your powder don't get just 1, get 2 or 3 to have them be in the same lot#. My personal min is 3 lb if I want to get a powder, if I have one kind at 3# in the order then I can do another at 2 maybe, but 3 is my magic minimum, personally.

I haven't experimented with TAC yet. I know quite a few members have had some good results using it.

another one to look at is Accurate 2460. Not sure how temp stable it is though. but it's been available lately better than H4895 has been.

And I thought I was the only guy here who has used that powder. Still have five or six pounds of it. Nothing spectacular but it worked.

Powder Valley has had Varget in stock since December and Shooter's World Precision since early January. Although the latter was designed to be a Varget clone, I actually like it better since it is a little denser and meters better. I've used it for a practical match load in Grendel with 123 Scenars and never had a problem with my dope with Arizona temp swings. Not a screamer though - I do 2440 out of a 22" near max.
Let's go Brandon!

“Temp stability” with a hunting round at reasonable ranges is way overrated! IMO Cool “ES” don’t really come into play in group size until going over 600 yds or more! Inside of 400 yds, who cares? It’s much ado/worry about nothing! Statistically, the data doesn’t support being concerned. Ok, some people will disagree, I get it! Look, follow the math/data! If you shoot inside of 400, even 500, finding the bullet/powder combo that gives the best accuracy on target is more important! Just saying… Rolleyes

Fair point. More concerned with pressure by developing a load in the cold then shooting in the heat.

Absolutely correct. Sure, there is a difference between powder that is in ten degree weather and 110 degree weather but for almost every shooting situation, it won't matter.

Will add though that if someone is the type who loves to go 'just a bit over' charge because 'everyone knows that the printed data is made for liability purposes and is deliberately low', that if you test your already overcharged loads in 40 degrees then take them out to Death Valley in July and let them sit in the sun for a hour or two, that you will probably experience really bad things but you won't see the sort of increase in velocity you may think should happen.

I would not make a decision on powder based solely on temperature stability. In fact, I never have used temp stability in my decision on a powder or load.

Have always looked at accuracy first.
