Brass shavings

It’s been around 100 rounds since I last cleaned my barrel. The first couple patches through it with solvent brings out tiny brass shavings on the patch I noticed it last time I cleaned the rifle also. My brass looks pretty good that comes out of the chamber. What could be causing this ? It can’t be too good for the barrel

Maybe it’s just the patch catching it as it enters the barrel extension

Brass is pretty soft. You can actually buy brass-jacketed handgun bullets.

Not always, but from time to time you'll notice some tiny shavings. Sometimes with military ammo and the occasional shaving regardless. Flecks of unburnt powder too in the lower action, especially low load subsonics.

I use a decent spray of WD40 and hold the barrel upright for 30 seconds on some newspaper. It sluices out all the carbon solvent and any grit in the extension. Then push out and oil. If you've got a adjustable block close it for cleaning. It also keeps it from seizing up with carbon lock.

Are you sure they aren’t copper?

Ragged gas ports with a burr on them can cause jacket shearing/shaving.

I have seen that many times.

Most bullet jackets are copper/zinc alloys that are technically brass. They can look pretty much the same.

Looks exactly like rifle brass to me. Not the color of bullet jacket. If a picture would post normal size I would post it.

Do you have brass specs on the bolt face? Maybe it is your extractor peels a small amount off.

Yes there is some there too. No doubt it’s the bolt causing it I just couldn’t figure out how a patch was picking it up. Almost had to be through the extension

I was making some 6ARC out of Grendel brass today and had a thought while trimming them to length. Even after deburring I still had a few cases with small, almost microscopic ridges at the case mouth. I could see the breaking off in the neck when extracting. Just a thought
