Downloading 6.5 Creedmoor to 6.5 Grendel power
#21
Results were fairly meh, I'll analyze more closely tonight, but no home-runs. Strangly, I never had to open up the gas system any, even at 2200 fps loads, which seemed odd.

As to other inputs, heh, the MDRx is a whole other animal, and its accuracy issues in the medium size round catagory is repeatedly being seen form among those who bother to actually do more than youtube "it works!" Or cherry pick one good group. It's a whole different animal with all kinds of different nuance that neither my AUG (223 bullpup), nor my AR10 in 6.5 CM have.

Very cool gun, but you can literally move the barrel with your hands. And yes, it's been back to the factory, they replaced the barrel and then said this is as good as it gets. The issues are multiple. With gas system in the wrong spot, trunion too weak and anchored in a strange way, and barrel profile with thin section in an odd place.

That said, I like 6.5. I like bullpups. This is the only game in town. What I really want is a light KelTek in 6.5 Grendel - thats not an option. The MdrX is actually quite reliable, and just a cool fun-gun to shoot. And it looks cool, so there's that Smile It's a good gong-range gun, but not so great a bullseye gun. Good enough for hunting, but not hunting at the full range of the 6.5CM round likely.

It has the craziest load specific POI shifting as well (also horizontal). Where you have to change zero by 6+ MOA depending on what ammo being shot. But it does that repeatable at least. It's something shooting one load at 200 yards, then switch ammo, look up the reference zero dope, click over a full 2 MIL per prior records (thats a lot), and first 200 shot be the same impact on target, with the different ammo. That's the MDRx. Recoil isn't bad, a good bit better than same weight ar10 6.5 cm, that part is good

So anyway, yes, my question was: if I greatly decrease the strain on the system (gas, trunion, et al), will I decrease the extent of shot to shot variation, and decrease the incident rate of SUPRISE 4 MOA horizontal flyer? (Heh and no, I'm not yanking the gun off by 4 MOA on the rest somehow). The answer... maybe, but I didn't exactly throw a lot of 1 MOA tight groups to prove it. Will study the targets when get more time tonight.

LE, interesting experiment, glad it was you and not I... I wouldn't have the patience for it.
Ugly bulldogs, ugly guns, but beauty in the eyes of the beholder. And beautiful when they perform!
[There are more pretty girls in the world than handsome guys, which is why I didn't give up LOL!]

Back to townsend whelen (I think!), "only accurate guns are interesting" - that's my story and I'm stickin to it!!!
Nice read however, keep us posted.

I confess, I do find myself down-loading even middle calibers like 308... older I guess, and not willing to take the recoil bashing...

So I often look for the next lower node... and no magnums in-house. Don't really see the need for 'em for me.

But haven't gone as far as lowering the creed to the grendel levels...

Interesting.

Ha! Well, some people take on project women (or man, for the womenfolk) or project dogs, and try to fix them. Me, I like tinkering with fixing project guns, way cheaper Smile

In this case, it's a seriously cool gun that has promise of 6.5mm CQB 25 yard capability and 1000 yard capability, all in the same very short gun with 20" BBL. This is both unique and profound in potential! All I have to is figure out how to reliably get it under 2MOA or better. 1.5 MOA, and I'm good! Almost there... almost there... Wups, NOT there.

GAH! OK, but if I try this... almost there... almost... Gah!

Ok, but if I try...

And so it goes

It's funny how interest change over night.

Any other day I would not look at a thread like this BUT.....

Saturday about 12:10 PM, I met a gentleman who was needing a few bucks and I picked up a Ruger American Predator chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Thank ya'll for taking the time to share this info!!!

Wish everyone a Merry CHRISTMAS!!!

Enjoy! 6.5 CM is a great round, and was my route towards discovering 6.5 Grendel, which I like even better. Still, if you ever get access to a 1000+ yard gong range, ya can't beat bringing a 6.5 CM! And yea, doing things with 40 gr of powder charge, is a very different conversation on-target, than 25 gr!

As to downloading - my own experience from these tests wasn't that great. Standard deviations of careful mass-charged loads was as high as 45 fps, and groups were in the 2 MOA level, or worse.

Go ahead and run it withing normal power range, is my suggestion.

On a side note, I was able to get a couple loads in 6CM downloaded to where a 6Arc would be...
90 Tgk I had a youth load 6CM at 2831 and I can get 2800 in a 20" 6 Arc.
Same youth type load in 95 gr again ~2800ish I can get the 22" bolt uintah 6Arc in that reange too.
So for the right combo of calibers, you can get there, doesn't help you much in your quest for that 6.5 whazzajiggy you've got, however. Cool

Pretty much what I experienced, with H4895 and reduced loads.

All things being equal though, accuracy should just be a function of harmonics, right? Obviously, higher SD’s would have more effect at further ranges! However, just finding the seating depth that gives you the bullet exit, opposite the scatter node vibration/whip at the muzzle, should tighten up the accuracy? I think? Rolleyes

Wouldn’t it?

I can remember 6.5 whazzajiggy. I always get confused about 6.5 LoudenBoomer. Is it the 26 Nosler or the 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum?
