As I am new to the forum, I value all of your input as I undertake this first time build, or mostly an assembly. Any and all recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks in advance Grendeleers!

If money were no option I’d seriously look at Uintah Precision which is a chassis system similar in appearance to an AR-15. I think the Uintah would make a very good precision rig. For a hunting rifle I like my Cz 527 but before buying my Cz I was looking hard at the Howa barreled action from Brownells in 6.5 Grendel with 20” threaded Heavy barrel. If hunting will be the primary use I think the 16” Cz 527 with synthetic stock and threaded barrel would be gtg. One disadvantage of the Cz 527 is 6.5 Grendel/7.62x39 mags are expensive and hard to find and will only get worse since Cz is discontinuing the 527. Ruger also has a 16” barrel in 6.5 Grendel.

Other options are get a Savage Action and get a barrel and bolt face and assemble your own.

I just went to the Cz web site and they have a Blem Varmint 527 in stock for $619. The Cz 527 varmint get great reviews and would be very tempting. The Cz 527 Varmint with 24” barrel is in stock for $699. Looks like all the other 6.5 Grendel 527’s are sold out. There several 7.62x39 Cz527 in stock but that would require a rebarrel.

I like the howa 22" std barrel for action and barrel. very well designed. One piece forged bolt. recoil lug integral with the action. front action screw through the lug ala M98 Mauser. They use to come with a crappy plastic stock, but now Stocky's is supplying a nice carbon fiber stock and if I didn't already have a 22" std bbl 6.5 Grendel mini Howa, I'd sure look hard at the Howa 1500 mini action stalker model with the 22" std barrel and CF stock.

downside to the howa is that the bottom "metal" is actually plastic as are the detachable magazines. if you torque the action screws too tightly, the plastic bottom "metal" splits. The magazines are ok, but like the CZ they stick out the bottom.

I remedied this with Jefferson Outdoors bottom metal. This is an Oberndorf latch style hinged floorplate bottom metal in anodized aluminum. Much classier and makes the rifle easier to carry. drawback is no detachable magazines if that's what you like.

It is definitely a scam, just got off the phone with CZ USA. They don’t sell firearms directly, can only be purchased through a dealer!

Sorry about that I didn’t look at the web site long and just noticed those rifles in stock. I’ll be more careful in the future about links to unknown sources.


In any event I’ve seen a few reviews on the Cz Varmint 527 in 6.5 Grendel and it appears to be a dandy rifle.
