This programs goals were so lofty, failure seems inevitable. .270 Weatherby ballistics in an ultra lightweight package that won't beat the crap out of the shooter...and maybe slap some sort of "tracking point" computerized optic on it....

That would depend on whether you were on the side of civil unrest requesting the help or on the side not requesting the help.
Heck, there were people upset that we allowed Mexican military into the US to aid in hurricane relief after Katrina and Rita, 'foreign forces' on our soil and all that.

So interesting that we would first handcuff our own law enforcement, yet invite in foreigners who don't know or care about our laws, security or peace.....

How do these recent posts relate to the OP other than the. parties involved will likely be using firearms?
A continuation of debates about repelling foreign invaders might well be an ideal discussion for the 2A forum.

US Army bracing for budget cuts under Biden-su Administration.

The current troop count is about 486,000 in the active force and a little more than a million in the total force.
When it comes to what chiefs have to grapple with in a budget, its end strength and structure, its readiness, and its modernization. Those are the three kind of big resource buckets we have, Gen. James McConville said at the Association of the U.S. Armys Global Force Next symposium, held virtually last month.
