Bullet Jump: is less always better?

From my experience bullet jump matters more in bolt action rifles. My Krieger bolt action 308 barrel likes bullets right up against the lands. But,with my Bartlein AR15 Grendel it does not seem to matter.It shoots well with a 1mm jump.
