I have the strike eagle 1-6 and the swampfox 1-8. The glass is clearer on the swampfox and the edge to edge clarity is better. Not getting rid of the strike eagle any time soon though.

I was looking at them this morning. They almost made the perfect hunting defense scope for my needs. Until they keep the reticle from their other scopes.

They hit everything dead on the head and then tripped and went face first in the mud with the reticles.

This isn't a bad hunting reticle I don't think... especially for a close-mid range gun... I had a similar reticle on my Bushnell Tactical Elite 1-6.5 and slayed lots of coyote/rabbits with it... I loved it

What kind of reticle do you prefer and for what purpose?

A nice simple thin crosshair with hashmark elevation and windage holdovers. That's what I have in my pst's and I use them for hunting, target playing and self defense

The reticles with half circles and chevrons just to me clutter up my sight picture.

I have tryed several ffp scopes and always find the same problems. They don't work well in low light trying to kill a animal and when you turn up the power the reticule gets bigger and covers my aim point. I'm a (pick a hair) type of shooter. So far me in my style of hunting and self defense use's.

Give me everything the new swampfox scopes have but lose the reticles and replace it with a reticle like what is in the gen 2 pst or some of the Athlon scopes.

That would be a perfect scope for my needs.

The Arrowheads look nice and I like the reticle, however they are about $200 more it looks like.
Anyway before the Arrowhead came out I had a case of the ass and bought both Strike Eagles, PSA 1-8x and Tomahawk 1-8x and I'm gonna do a YouTube review of my opinion of them.
I can tell you my least favorite reticle is the 1-8x Strike Eagle(IMO useless for range estimation) compared to the others.
You may ask why buy them all.... it was a case of the ass I got and I want to test them myself. :eek:

Price wise, it looks like the Tomahawk is in the Vortex Strike Eagle range? How does the glass compare? I was looking at that kentucky long to replace a Vortex Viper if the clarity is better. Just trying to gauge comparisons.

what about clarity. That was my biggest gripe with the 1-6 strike eagle I had... dawn/dusk/low light clarity was terrible if you tried to use any magnification. Even in perfect conditions it wasn't the greatest.

I am very interested to see your results on this. For my purposes I'm good with the Swampfox Tomahawk but I'm always curios about other market options

Clarity is much better than the strike eagle, and its also slightly clearer than primary arms $300 to $400 options. I don't actually own any high end glass but its definitely not Razor HD clear.

So I have spent some time with the new 2-12 Kentucky Long, comparing it to my 2.5-10 Viper PST. I spent several hours on the phone with Mike, it's nice to be able to talk with someone like that directly who answered a lot of questions I had before hitting buy (mainly b/c I hate buying without holding first).

I use the PST as a 0-300 hunting gun and then plinking at range. I have always been annoyed by the non locking turrets, I've missed a cple coyotes b/c of windage turret getting turned and me not noticing. The glass has also been less than impressive at times and I really like my xmas tree reticles. I have been looking for awhile for a scope that's in the same price range, but takes care of those issues.

After some talking with Mike he made it very clear he's not rebranding anyone's optic, this is one reason he doesn't have his mil/mil turret out yet for the Kentucky Long line, he hasn't got it to his liking. He did inform me he just bought a million + dollar cnc machine which will do nothing but make turrets for him. Anyway, I pulled the trigger on the scope. I was comparing it to a Bushnell Forge 3-18 and Viper PST 2.5-10.

The glass and tracking on this scope are as good as PST if not better. It keeps the same size as the PST but gives the better mag range and the illuminated FFP at 2x works like a good reddot.. it's even daylight bright here in So. Arizona. Features parallax and locking turrets (something the PST doesn't). In this gun I'm not dialing much, rather using the reticle, so I'm ok that it's missing a zero stop (for now, he's designing one as we speak). Compared to the Forge is significantly smaller and lighter, has illumination which Forge doesn't, but Forge does beat it slightly in glass and turret feel (they lock and have zero stop). That's to be expected though for the price difference.

Summary... especially if you are le/mil, it's a no brainer... better scope for less money. Here's just a couple pics., best I could do with a cell phone behind the scopes locked in a vice. The peak of the house is 225 yards.
