Rap Nosler 90 Varmageddon 8208 Range report

First test of the Varmageddon in the Rap. I like them.
I was expecting more velocity that what was measured for 8208 xbr, so next time I'll try a variety of powders.
They did better than my first test of the Speer 90 TNT.

Very good results, Lemonaid! What did the MV top out on these if I may ask? I haven't started loading for varmint hunting on mine. I'm doing 123gr and up deer loads for now. After the new year, I'm going to drop down and find a groundhog load or two.

Rosecrans1: SD=8.92 average velocity = 2743 in my 22 inch Rap, 30.0 of 8208, measured 29 feet from the muzzle.
The Nosler site has the Varm max charge for 8208 at 31.0 for velocity of 2953 out of a 24 inch barrel and this was the top velocity of the powders they have listed for the 90 Varm.

There is about a 100 fps gain from 30.0 to 31.0 in the Nosler data, so in my Rap it should max out at about 2850

Just curious why you set your chrono so far from the muzzle? I'd like to see what are the readings 10-15 ft from the muzzle.
I tried the factory 90gr TNTs in my RAP this weekend and was pleased to see they had the same POI as the 120gr Fusions. Both were right at about .80" MOA.

I tried the factory 90gr TNTs in my RAP this weekend and was pleased to see they had the same POI as the 120gr Fusions. Both were right at about .80" MOA.

The range I shoot at has overhead baffles every 50 yards or so starting at about 10 yards. The baffles create a shaded zone where the chronograph will not work hardly at all so I have to move it 27 to 30 feet to get it in the sun.
In the near future I will get a magnetospeed

toolsofthetrade posted his results with the Varm and he got 2954 at 31.0 grains (info is on his pics). That is in line with Nosler's load data and I would think close to what most would get.

Thanks for response. I'm in the same situation with the range I'm a member at. I'd have to pick the perfect day sun wise to get it just right also. Or get a light kit for the chronograph is my next option.

yeah that velocity is well under what you should be getting, I get 3000fps with my 20in HB, 90gr TNT/31gr of 8208.

You might want to check your data. 3000 fps with a 90 tnt is 24 inch barrel velocity.

You might be running a bit warm for your barrel.
