12" barrel max efficient range.

I just picked up a Grendel with a 12" barrel, looking to run a suppressor and use it for some coyote work. My question is, how far would you feel comfortable shooting this barrel length at coyotes? Or optimal coyote range. Thanks

What elevation? In Florida at sea level my 12 inch suppressed shooting 110g lead frees will take down coyotes farther then i could hit them. According to strelok i have full expansion out to 600 yards.

Here are some chronograph results which have been posted on the forum. The Hornady 123 ELD-M and SST need a minimum velocity of 1800 FPS to expand. I haven’t seen any chronograph results on 90 grain Federal TNT out of a 12” barrel.

123gr Hornady American Gunner bulk HPBT = 2201 FPS ave with SD of 14.7 (2" to 2.55" groups)
123gr Hornady ELD-M Black = 2265 FPS ave with SD of 13.2 (1.4 to 1.7" groups)
123gr Hornady Custom SST Factory= 2277 ave with SD of 11.8 (2.9 to 3.2" groups)

When I had my 12.5 the Federal 90 Tnt's were shooting about 2600 out of it, BC 0.281... so, 150 yds, -1.13", 2167 ft/s.
200, -4.09", 2032 ft/s. 250 yd, -9.09", 1901 ft/s.
It's a varmint round I don't know what the min opening is...

I use mine (12.7") to take and cull out to 350ish. I'd say I'm confident enough to take deer (quick kill and carcass preservation) from 50-275. With a 3-9 on it, I'd push that a bit. I have no issues at all with coyotes, where the goal is simply to cull, out to more than 300.

Rarely do I recover my coyote kills. I leave that to the other coyotes.

I use a suppressor, and find 95gr vmax to do the job well enough to trust. They aren't as easy to tune, or as fun to make groups on paper, but they are fast, reliable enough, and they devastate coyotes.
