Barrel ID

How can a Shilen barrel be identified? I purchased an AA upper with Shilen upgrade and just curious, Shoots great. Did not buy directly from AA.

call AA and or send them a picture.

They can't necessarily. Shilen doesn't mark them, and AA may or may not depending on the profile. Plus, sometimes people reprofile after they receive them. Makes it very hard!

Doesn't re-profiling (or fluting) introduce stresses into barrel (unless relieved)?

When we profile and chamber the blanks all identifying marks which are stamped onto the breach are removed.

To allow for inventory control in a production environment the barrels are stamped with an S orthogonally on the journal behind the gas block. This can be seen without disassembly but may require some examination.

If the barrel is re-profiled then any marking may be removed.

Thanks, mine is stamped with an "S". Shoots really great and reason for inquiring is I am gonna order another upper with shorter barrel. Just want to make sure that I know what to ask for.
