Because I had a spare $15.75 laying around (that my wife hadn't found) I bought the "5/8x24 TPI Thread 6.5 Creedmoor Competition Muzzle Brake /w Washer" off of ebay from 'prosupplies32778'
To maximize efficiency of the brake, it should only be a few thousandths larger than the bore but Precision Shooter (I think) had said that .308 m/b's would only lose 5~10% on a 6.5mm
In this case I have a new muzzle brake to put on my 9.3x62 - a .366 bullet falls right thru :o
I'm sure it's plenty loud though so I can annoy other shooters.
This will be tested on a 18" BCA upper for schitzen giggles...

I have one of those on a 5.56. It works, although I've never really compared it side by side with a name brand to really quantify it's performance. I think they included it in the truthaboutguns.com 5.56 muzzle brake shootout and had good things to say about it. I have another eBay brake on my Savage .308 and it definitely reduced recoil, although I wish it had done a little more to keep the muzzle down. Can't complain though, considering the price.

The two cheap brakes I have on my Grendels do work. I feel the effective recoil mitigation lost from the larger hole also is directly proportionate to the softer muzzle blast it creates.
It doesn't work as well as one with smaller holes but it is not as loud either.

I have one of the "Smile And Wait For Flash" brakes on my 18" Heavy straight flute. It is loud, obnoxious for others on the range next to you. I got it in an Ebay package deal with a knurled tube forearm, barrel nut and gas tube, used with less than 40 rounds fired through it for like $25.
Best brake I have ever used was a Smith Enterprise brake on my M1 Garand. Kind of expensive but really worked good. Garand cycled good, tamed recoil down to M1 carbine level, accuracy no problem.

I've been running an eBay brake on an upper I purchased and I honestly couldn't be happier with it. The difference between a $20 brake on eBay and a $165 Area 419 is shockingly little for the price difference.

There is a guy on YouTube that has done a comparison on a bunch of brakes as to recoil reduction and there is not that much difference between most. Some do have more blast than others though.

I’ve bought a few of those, two dual chamber AR brakes in 5.56 phosphate & .308 stainless steel, a VZ58 PKM flash hider and a cone style ak device. They all work & fit fine and were all under $30 shipped. Threads were good and all were concentric.

Like others here have stated the eBay brakes work fine in my experience for the money. I wouldn't put them on a precision rifle but if you need one for hunting (seems crazy) or just for fun I'd recommend them. I had one on an AR10 and it worked quite well, while also being almost unbearably loud. It was a fun gun but I couldn't really take it to a public range in that configuration.
