6.5 Grendel Pistol Issue

Joe I'm watching how you do. I have a 12.5 BA, seems so far to shoot fine -- haven't had much of a chance lately on it, though.

Might think about also putting on an adjustable GB while you have it apart... gives you that adjustment dimension.

Wow, I can't believe how long its been since I last posted on this thread!

OK, physically, I'm up and running on all 8 cylinders! I'm running back and forth from OK to CO monthly, working on a cabin up there.

As for the 12.5" BA barreled AR pistol, when I'm home in OK, I'm catching up with the family, I don't have much time to go to the range or surf the 'net, but I did take time to take the gas block off of the upper and measure the gas port again. As mentioned in previous posts, when talking to BA about the barrel, they said it should be .055" leaving their factory, as they were anticipating everyone that used that barrel to run it suppressed. I measured it myself to be .050", and drilled it out to .073" back in Apr 2019. No chance to get to a range in OK, but I did take the pistol with me to CO every trip, as it runs fine with the 10.5" 5.56 upper I have for it. With the 12.5" Gr upper on it, I took it up in the mountains and found a large stump with an earthen backdrop and ran it thru its paces just for a function test; single round, locking bolt open, multiple times, ejection at 4 o'clock. Did a few 5 round function checks, etc. It seems totally fine now, using a regular carbine buffer and spring. Mechanically, I think it's A-OK!

Finally made it to the range in OK today, shooting the Hornady American Gunner 123 gr BTHP ammo, I was getting 1.25'-1.5" groups at 100 yds from a steady rest. Not too bad, I am probably the weak link in this combo with 67 yr old eyes, but hoping to shrink those group sizes with other ammo or handloads! I moved over to the pistol range to run some Wolf steel case 100 gr thru it. Offhand, using a white paper plate as a target, and 45* mounted BUIS's, I was rapid firing (the lower has a Geissele S3G trigger, from it's 5.56 pistol days), I was keeping all of them in the center of the paper plate, shooting as fast as I could, getting a 5" group. Then during a reload I noticed the scope had moved slightly to the rear in the rings. When I got home, I pulled the ring caps and used some locktite on the screws. Just another reason to get back to the range ASAP and play with it some more.

Today, it functioned 100%, no issues of any kind, other than the scope loosening up. I'm looking forward to trying more/different ammo thru it, but I'm very happy with it right now.

Glad you had a successful test wgj. I find the pistol builds harder to shoot well compared to rifle but I’m in the same boat. Family responsibilities have obligated most of my time the last few months. Thanks for the update.
