I had the same idea with cheaper parts on the outside. The 15" is nice on the longer barrels though. Also lets you put a pod further downrange for more stability. YMMV...

The build is done, just waiting on the Vortex Viper 6.5-20 x 44 scope. I will post a few pics soon!
