Grendel barrels, your suggestions please

I just started my first Grendel build and, like many here, I need a little advice on component selection. Specifically, I need to find a barrel. I have been comparing several manufacturers (Shilen, CORE, Odin, BHW, Satern, AA) but, being new to the Grendel world, am just not sure which way to go because I am not up on commonly used components, the established good/bad reputations, nor do I have real world experience.

This is a range toy (eventually out to 1000yds) meaning it will most likely not be subjected to hard use or combat conditions. So my criteria has been as follows: medium to heavy contour, 18" (though I might go to 20" if the situation dictated), SS, not sure about twist rates yet (suggestions for the 140gr. A-Max), black finish, I'd like to buy a bolt/barrel set that is pre headspaced but this is not a necessity, and preferably under $300. None of this is set in stone because I'm a bit of a barrel snob and will adjust my preferences as my knowledge progresses.

Given this information, what would be your suggestion(s)? Real world experience is appreciated, as well as pics if you have them. Thanks guys

I have the brownells satern barrel its 21 inch HBAR SS. Started life as a 24 inch but was cut and recrowned

There are several barrel makers to choice from PF being the one most on my mind.

i have a shilen barrel in my grendel, and it is a tac driver. i would highly recommend it.

my next option would probably be the precision firearms/criterion barrel

I have 2 Lilja barrels, and they both are fantastic. Probably your best bet is to call Mark at Precision Firearms and he'll help you find the best option.

Also, I would look at better quality upper receivers. Something already trued, snug barrel fit. I've been known to bring my barrel into my LGS and check the fit before buying.

Doc, for the 140 grains, you'll probably want 1 in 8" twist or better. I have a 20 Shilen with 1 in 9". When I tried some 140 gr Bergers, they didn't stabilize until I got up to the max charge. The Berger twist rate calculator confirms this.

i just built a 6.5 using an ar-stoner 18" unfluted barrel. i have only shot three groups so far but all were sub moa. the barrel came from midway with a bolt for $300

1-8 are 1-9 either one will work just purchase proper bullet weights for whatever twist you have and your 20 inch barrel will stabilize them to 600 and more im sure.

That depends on how heavy a projectile you anticipate shooting. If you plan on shooting anything heavier than 123 grains, I strongly suggest a 1:8" twist. There's nothing a 1:9 can do that a 1:8 won't, but you can't say that in the reverse. Just go tight and don't sweat it.
