My idea is to have a custom reamer made that only cuts above the shoulder to fix our short throat and keep the the compound throat since Satern is unwilling.
So far I have only talked to PTG but intend on talking to at least one more reamer manufacturer, most likely Manson next week. PTG quoted me around $138 and a 6-8week turn around.
Who all would be in for splitting the costs if/when I get one ordered and passing it around?
Edit-Reamer has been ordered from JGS PM me or post here if you want to chip in and share the reamer(PM would be best). Projected date to receive reamer is 7June2014

I'll pitch in and I don't even have one of the short chambers. I've been enjoying shooting factory ammo for years without a glitch, and hate to see folks down and out because of this, to be honest.

To be honest I'm alright going this alone but figure there are others inflicted with this issue that are willing to go this route that just need a little push.
Forking up up to $150 far out weighs having this rifle blow up in my wife's face, my face, replacing firing pins, bolts, or the cost's of replacing the rifle, or mabe even brass life in the long run...Lots of negatives in jamming and pressure spikes in an ar and no positives that I can see...to bad this isn't a bolt gun as in that case I wouldn't care.
I'm thinking that since it's already chambered and the throat just needs to be cut a little more I could probably even do this my self with some good cutting oil, the specialty made reamer, and a t handle.

I thought about doing this myself. It was cheaper and better to have PF do it. I got my Liberty barrel back from Mark and it looks nice. I measures the same as Lilja. It is nice and clean cut. He put it in the lathe with oil going thue it when he cut it. Range report in a few days. From what I read, if you do it yourself do not cut to deep.

Just my 2 cents IMO you're going to have to get ~15 people in on this for it to be a better deal than just having Mark at PF fix your barrel. I'm assuming it'll cost you around $50 for a local gunsmith to ream it, then your personal time that'll be devoted to this. It also sounds like it'll be quicker for you to send it to Mark.

You could get away with this using a standard reamer I think, but with this specialty reamer you are talking about, I would not do it yourself unless you have a lathe and a way to fix the reamer to dead center of the barrel. The issue being that a normal reamer would 'guide' itself based on the reamer being able to fit tight throughout the entire chamber (throat, neck, body), whereas one that cuts only the throat would only be touching in the throat, and therefore any small offset of the other end of the reamer would cause the throat to be cut not concentric to the bore and existing chamber. Hope that makes sense.

I just think it is pour business to treat people like they are doing. I can not believe that this barrel maker or those who are putting their name on this problem will not man up and take care of their customers. I am sorry that this has happened to the people that ordered this product. BANG BANG!! I wonder how many are out there??

So you think that this method could not be done if the reamer was built to the standard Grendel reamer specs yet only had a cutting surface infront of the shoulder? Nothing would change with the reamer except for the cutting surface.
I was thinking the reamer would naturally center as it follows the path of the chamber and come to a deadstop on the shoulder when the cutting is complete.

To make it a little more clear.
The cutting surface is the area in the black box....area in red exists and is made to SAMMI spec dimensions but does not cut.

I have a PTG throat Unithroat reamer I bought to extend the throat of my 6.5 CSS chamber. I bought it before the throat dimensions for the Grendel were readily available so it is not a compound throat reamer. It worked very well however the break in period for the rifle after reaming took quite a bit of time. At its best, the barrel shot 1/2" groups with 123 grain nosler CCs or Hornady SSTs regularly. 31.7 grains of LVR gives slightly over 2600 fps out of the 22 inch tube. I recommend the product but proceed with caution.

Adam thanks for your input, I should of made my custom reamer idea more clear from the start.
Anyone with a short-throat;
I still intend to proceed with this reamer idea and will talk with Manson and Mabe a few more reamer makers in the beginning of the week. So if you want to chip in for the reamer and pass it around the offer still stands.

I have seen several people post up that will refuse to use PTG products after their stance on the Grendel Chamber. You will get more response from those people if you can get a Manson reamer as that is what Lilja and PF have stated they use.

You are referring to what is known as a "stop reamer" Dave Manson makes these in HSS with live pilots.
You would require the reamer and a T handle such that the work can be performed without disassembly. The body does not cut but will work with the pilot to guide the reamer to the center of the existing chamber/throat. It will not correct short neck chambers or insufficient radii at junctions.
Use a straight tapping oil for the work and go slowly with only light pressure.

This is oat likely a dumb question. .. why not send it to Satern to fix the issue? I sent mine in and had it back in a week. Works great! Shoots even better now. Same load shot .516 groupings at 100 yards and now it shoots .388. Out of the 18" barrel. Did loose velocity though as I posted yesterday.

Explorecaves I still intend on talking with Manson and Mabe one other such as Clymer. I included PTG because they are a well known reamer manufacturer. Got to remember here Satern did this mess not PTG. I do agree though, I saw a 6.5 Grendel ii(better than SAMMI) reamer on their website and that is a sharp poke in the eye. I was not able to speak to Dave about that since he wasn't in.

Wave, I want to keep the compound throat. Satern will not fix it that way and will only remove it resulting in a bastardized chamber.

I talked to someone at Dave Manson's shop and they said 5 months.
I aggressively cleaned my barrel with JB's and seated 85 grain sierras to 2.130 and shot them till the throat moved forward and that seems to have worked.
The throat might be like a BR throat now.
123SST's are 10 thou off the lands seated at 2.245 which is factory length.
I get groups under 3/4 inch with AR Comp.
When I first got the barrel a 123 would stop at 2.230 now after a lot of work cleaning it the 123SST's stop at 2.255.
If I had to do it again I'd just send it in to Precision Firearms if I wanted to stick with the Grendel chamber or send it in to Saturn for a 264LBC type throat.
My barrel is very accurate shooting many 5 shot groups very close to half inch.
I would imagine either way the barrel will be accurate with a parallel or compound throat.
