Well, I guess some could say a game of leap frog is afoot.

Tortise and the Hare?

Ah yes, the difference in major company marketing power and small business fiscal and time constraints.

Gee, that might actually might mean we got to rename the cartridge the 6.5 Tortise ad keep on truckin!!!

Considering it is the Hannah Montana of cartridges...that eventually would....TWERK! lolz

Nope, the 6.8 is probably going be the bandwagon, this year and next.

Considering the blackout has been around for 20 some years as the 300 whisper and everyone seems to forget when looking at it that the blackout is not realy designed to compete with any of the mid range rifle cartidges out there, it was designed to compete with the 9mm in the form of a suppresed ar15 firing a 240+ grain bullets vs mp5sd and the same gun can fire a lighter supersonic bullet aprochang the performance of the 7.62x39 but that part has become the pivotal marketing point for selling it

As far as Grendel becoming the next bandwagon, game on if in gets another ammo manufactor to throw their hat in the ring all the better it's not like the existing factory ammo supplies are meeting demand but I would love to see Winchester start loading for it they make good brass...not that I would complain about remington or federal jumping in to the mix...

I'm with you on a major ammo maker stepping up to the plate....hell, I've even make my desires known to mom & pop ammo makers like UNDERWOOD AMMO, who makes Beowulf ammo......but to no avail..

The problem with the small companies is they are reliant on components from other companies what we need is another manufacture of components to steep up the plate hornady isn't able to keep up with demand and wolf has its own issues

I hear ya, but Underwood seems to be the only ones with in-stock Beowulf ammo (228 boxes) at the moment..

I always thought the grendel was way more popular than the beowulf am I wrong?? The problem with the grendel is getting stuff for it. Barrels are hard to get and expensive. Ammo is just about impossible to get. I see alot more 6.8 spc stuff. The thing about the 6.8 that is lost on most people is its simply a harder hitting 5.56. Thats a great thing don't get me wrong. The grendel gives you that and way better long range performance than the 6.8 or 5.56

I sent another e-mail to them today and told the owner to get some Grendel into production and they could sell a crap load. I've been talking to them for 5 months and no movement.

The only thing is I don't see any bullets to go in the 200 gr area. They make short 7" barrels for Grendel that would be great for subsonic if you could fine 200 to 230 gr bullets and still pack way more powder and use the Grendel II chamber to give it more OAL.. http://saternmachining.com/barrels_on_hand

Neat plug!

Are we discussing 200-230 grain bullets for the 6.5 or for the 30 caliber?

The maximum weight bullet commonly seen the for 6.5 caliber is 160 grains and they require a 1-8" twist for stabilizing.

Should one be serious about trying this in 6.5, one would probably have to custom build them and go with a faster twist than 1-8".

Nonetheless, a lot of us would like to see a project like that move forward with real bullets, barrels, and shooting.

"Grendel II" chamber? I'm detecting a distinct pattern here....

You either have a Grendel chamber or you don't. Period.

Also: The Grendel chamber handles the heaviest bullets currently manufactured just fine as is for subsonic use. Hornady makes a 160 grain soft pointed round-nose, but that's about it for 6.5 heavies that are actually available. Even the Hornady 160 is hard to get sometimes. If you can somehow convince someone to make substantially heavier ones, then let me know and I'll be happy to load them up and show you how they'll run just fine out of an actual Grendel chamber. Powder capacity and seating depth aren't the issue with subs in a Grendel. It's port pressure (getting enough of it while still staying subsonic).

Variable,

I like the images -- those heavies have used up all of the magazine length!

I order to subsonic lay stabalize a 230 gr 6.5 bullet one would probably need a twist rate around 1in5 as the bullet would be around 1.75 inches long... When it comes to the sub sonic game diamiter and mass become very important bigger is better as velocity is limited the only way to increase power is via a bigger bullet think buffalo gun and you will get the picture in a practical package for a subsonic platform the blackout whisper is hard to beat in a sentry removal role which is about the only practical subsonic use in combat though the bullet hitting the target make an increadable amount of noise that you don't realize until you have experienced it," red squirrels with a suppresed 22" head shots sound like a fast ball being smacked out of the park by a wood bat, body shots sound kinda like when you throw a realy big rock into a pond and you get that big thump sound instead of a splash basically it's not like the movies where there is a puff sound and the target falls over

Is 6.5 Grendel the New 300 Blackout? - Variable - 02-27-2014

Yeah, even rabbits make a fairly loud "pop" sound when you hit them with a 40 grain CCI subsonic HP.

I was interested in a 300 Blackout for a while, but I've decided to deliver 230gr. HPs via a different route for now.

A fifty yard head shot is pretty easy, and I'll see how far it'll still hold that this summer hopefully. If the ATF would quit dinking around with my paperwork, I could start testing it out more seriously. Running it without a can isn't as fun. I want my .45 can released from purgatory! A Blackout would do 230grs. more quietly perhaps, but doesn't fit into a holster too well.LOLWink

I might still get a .300 someday, but I'm in no hurry yet.

ETA: I'd still like to see at least a 180 grain 6.5 bullet. My 10.5" stabilizes the 160's easy, I just never found a load that'd cycle with a barrel that short. I'd like to see how heavy I could go. A 180 or heavier bullet (if my tube would stabilize it) would give me a better chance to find a cycling load with a normal gas block. I'd rather try a heavier bullet before potentially wasting time and money on expensive gas setups that might not solve the problem for me (while staying good at normal supersonic loads).
