Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-11-2014 Looking to pull the trigger on a side charged, billet upper for a new build, and am interested to hear if anyone has a review of the Quality Arms side charged upper? Likes, dislikes, etc......from people that actually own one or have shot one. Not looking for a reciprocating vs. non reciprocating debate. Just wanting to support a grendel supporter (like Quality Arms) so long as the product gets good reviews. Show some pics too if you have them (wanting to see the fit with hand guard and lower). Thanks in Advance! Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-11-2014 Anyone have this upper that can provide a review? Seems like a few were promoting them here (Xcountry, Tedward??) and a few that may have one (Keystone?). Very interested in purchasing, but want to know the upper is quality and fits tight with most billet lowers. Also, from the other thread, seems like 3 - 5 people are waiting for a review to pull the trigger. If good reviews, others may be interested. However, there is little to no reviews on this product yet. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - cory - 02-11-2014 I believe they just began offering it. I wouldn't expect any right now. Is square tot he extension. Bolt carrier seems very nice too. One issue i have is the bolt raceway is pretty rough. Machining marks all throughout. Like a series or circles. Not terrible or real prominent, but visible, and i believe making for a less than smooth feel. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-11-2014 Keystone, I appreciate your experience with the Crosshill.....I have my eye on it too, as it is offered at a more attractive price point. For the QA, although $350 is an OK deal without bolt, the boltless discount is only $50, despite the going rate being ~$75 for a bolt. Not to mention the fact that more people would likely jump on board if there were good reviews and a volume discount (like JoeBob offers on the Crosshill). Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - Ridgerider - 02-12-2014 Hey guys if people dont talk to us we cant answer the questions. We offer one of the slickest uppers available in more combinations than anyone. The $50 discount is for a 223 bolt which can be purchased almost anywhere for approx $35.00. Now if you want 223/556, Grendel, Beowulf, 450, 6.8 bolts in left or right we can supply them. We can supply an upper for use from 17 Remington to the 50 Beowulf. Reviews come from people who buy our products and are members of the site but believe me we have sold many and have many very happy customers who are not members of the site. We stand behind our product our rifles come with a lifetime limited warranty how many can say that. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - joker31 - 02-12-2014 The problem guys are having is the fact that when you made your offer you presented it as a discounted package not as a different "stripped down" package. When you present something as a discount or deal its universally received as receiving the same product at a lower cost, not as one that has less parts or features. I think this is where the confusion came from, people were asking for a group buy like other companies have given in exchange for a certain amount of purchasers in a given forum. This is usually given by companies to spark sales and to get their product out so people can review the quality of the product and so they can endorse it through word of mouth advertisement. Not as a way to say heres a stripped down version of our product, buy it like the rest of the world is allowed, that is called (for lack of a better term) stealing advertisement. Stealing advertisement is usually severely frowned on by administrators of forums and will usually get people banned. Try it on ar15.com or snipershide and see what I mean if you don't believe me.... your IP will get banned before you can put your next post up..... just trying to clarify the situation, mot disparaging your product, as you know I'm interested in it myself. On our web site we offer the complete upper for $400 including the bolt which is a standard 223 bolt we do not offer it to the public any other way, as most people are aware the Grendel bolt is approx $80 which is approx $45-50 more than a 223 bolt. Liberty, Saturn, and a few others offer barrels with a head spaced bolt. Our offer is for Grendel forum members and we are not offering it to any other Forum members. With that in mind omitting the 223 bolt which will not be required if building a Grendel from the package and discounting the upper $50 seems reasonable to me. Now taking that into account should you need a Grendel bolt whether a right handed or a left handed bolt we can sell you one for $80.00 which brings the complete upper with a Grendel bolt to $430 and should you choose the ambidextrous version the total cost would be $480 for both the lefty and righty Grendel bolts. No other company will offer you a complete side charger upper with a Grendel bolt for $430 they may offer you a complete upper with a 223 bolt and sell you a Grendel bolt for another $80.00. As this is a Grendel forum and as most barrels come with a Grendel bolt why sell you or anybody else a 223 bolt which would be of very little use. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but this trend was Quality Arms Reviews. If you bringing the Crosshills Side Charge Upper Receivers @ Joebobs into this trend you are guilty as your accusing. Since you did, Crosshill's are only right eject with right charge. Bolt carrier and gas plug. No Bolt at all. . http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Crosshill_Technologies_XSR_15_Side_Charge_Upper_R_p/cht-xsr-15-rh.htm This model has the right and left charge but again not the left eject. I guess if thats what you want buy it . http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Crosshill_Technologies_XSR_15_Side_Charge_Upper_A_p/cht-xsr-15-ambi.htm So I think the QA is cool, good price and it works great for right handed and left handed or left eye dominant people. I have one and it works flawlessly for as little as I've used it, just to cold out to run a bunch of ammo and give it a good test. And busy at work. So I give it a thumbs up! Two, both left and right
Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-12-2014 Tedward, I appreciate the review. What hand guard do you have it paired with? The reason I ask, is because most other billet side charged upper appear to be bulkier than say a lower profile billet upper, like Seekins for example. I am wanting to pair a side charged upper with a lower profile rail, particularly the new Noveske NSR rail, so I want to ensure that the upper is somewhat compatible without looking awkward. I also was wondering what lower is paired with your QA upper, as I am curious about the fit. Thanks in advance. My point with Crosshill is that it also gets good reviews, BUT THEY OFFER A VOLUME DISCOUNT......their volume discount starts at 3x pieces ($40 off I beleive) and increases with more pieces. Maybe QA's product is that much better that they dont need to offer a discount. Seems like a number of people are interested, but sitting on the sidelines. I am very interested myself. I think a volume discount may get people motivated to buy. Then a few good reviews via word of mouth here on the forum (and others) may get others to pull the trigger.....after all, there are a bunch of new builds going on right now (given the Lilja and Liberty group buys). Like joker31 mentioned, there is usually a price for this type of advertising, which is a proven winner. Just ultimately trying to get a good deal for the forum members and also generate increased business for a grendel supporter. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - Ridgerider - 02-12-2014 Combine our upper with the Midwest ss series gen 2 it looks like a monolithic upper Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - Tedward - 02-12-2014 I have a Nordic Components and there HG are great price and rock solid. Some HG have tabs that are antirotaion tabs or some companies put them on there HG's to cover the seem. I have a few other new model HG's in the works that are super light weight and the tabs are being removed so they will work with Mega Arms SBU Uppers and upper like QA's. Like you pointed out, Seekins have the reduced front area on there billet upper so the HG I speaking of can fit but I like the Slick Side uppers without brass deflectors. I also use DPMS Low Profile Uppers and QA's is around that dimension. Either way there are lots of choices but if you want a really smooth finish, different than most other peoples uppers, QA's has that. I like my MA SBU's with left charge, not trying to steal your trend RR but everyone has something different to offer. This one has a 18" Liberty Barrel and a Yankee Hill HG. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-12-2014 Tedward, Am I seeing things or do I have a misperception, but does your left side charged upper work with that full length bolt catch?? I would think the side charge handle would catch on the bolt. I love pretty much all Mega billet upper and lowers, and have a bunch (but no side charged upper), so I may wait until they come back online. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-12-2014 Not an option for me.......my 16.7" NSR is already waiting for an upper to be paired with. Is the Midwest SS gen 2 a lower profile handguard? Again, I am trying to get answers to two questions (i) how does your upper fit with most quality billet lowers (ie - Mega, Seekins, etc.)?, and (ii) does your upper match well with a lower profile hand guard? Ridgerider Wrote:Combine our upper with the Midwest ss series gen 2 it looks like a monolithic upper Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - Tedward - 02-12-2014 lilharcher Wrote:Tedward, Nope, the bolt catch is tucked in the recessed pocket that is factory milled in the upper. I use Aero Precision Ambi Bolt Catch (PDQ) so you can lock the bolt back or release it with your right index finger. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-12-2014 The reason I asked was because the picture provided shows what appears to be a normal sized bolt catch, which appears to obstruct the bolt.....I must be seeing things because the picture is a little fuzzy. As a small aside....how do you like that lower? Just bought a mega ambi billet for $50 more, and love it. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - Tedward - 02-12-2014 There lower is forged, and its fine. I'm having Billet Lowers made that will incorperate the PDQ to be used and I like it better than the Mega and Seekins bolt latch release. The PDQ lets you lock the bolt back as well as release it. No springs, one piece construction. Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - lilharcher - 02-13-2014 Any President's Day sales at Quality Arms?? Like the side charged upper....lol?? Still holding out hope, because this is my first choice...... Quality Arms Side Charged Upper - Any reviews? - dammitman - 02-13-2014 I will have a review but not for awhile. I have in hand the left charge right discharge unit. Its the first piece for a 300 blackout pistol. |
