JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - jfornelli - 12-25-2013 Anyone here use this spring? I'd like to know if you ended up ordering/needing the additional spring pack to customize the setup...? JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - KentuckyBuddha - 12-25-2013 Yes. They are wonderful. They also have a hefty military discount, which of course I learned only AFTER I bought several. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - Bike Effects - 12-25-2013 I am using this in my Grendell. Also using the JP low mass carrier and a JP adjustable gas block. Smooth as butter! JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - Drifter - 12-25-2013 They do indeed work very nicely. Too many variables to know for certain whether a different spring strength is needed for any particular setup that doesn't have an adjustable gas block, but the standard spring seems to be a reasonably good compromise. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - Buster - 12-25-2013 I use them in all my ARs, right out of the box JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - Y85 - 12-25-2013 Here too - on every build. Good product, worth the money. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - kg4kpg - 12-25-2013 KentuckyBuddha Wrote:Yes. They are wonderful. I'd like to get one for the Grendel build. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - KentuckyBuddha - 12-25-2013 kg4kpg Wrote:I guess it's just best to call in the order for the mil discount? They are wonderful. They also have a hefty military discount, which of course I learned only AFTER I bought several. They work great, factory spring, Low Mass BC, JP Adj. GB and I use it on my Grendel, Wylde and Beowulf. The Wulf is the only one without an adjustable GB and I use the Full Mass JP Carrier and cycles flawlessly. What percent of discount from JP with the military info? 10%, 15%?? They are in stock at Brownells for $128, well if you buy enough they provide a standard discount. Regular price shows $138, they provide me a 7% off. I would rather have a Hefty Discount... JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - KentuckyBuddha - 12-25-2013 It is allegedly 20% off for active duty for items like these, and 10% for complete weapons. If that pertains to you (then thanks for your service), why not give them a call and be sure? If that pertains to you (then thanks for your service), why not give them a call and be sure? That does not pertain to me but I support our troops in many ways and I do work in many military facilities. Many of my colleagues use JP products and I never heard of that so I'll investigate. 10% to 20% off is a hefty discount so thanks for the tip. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - Schwag173 - 12-25-2013 I have two and they have worked flawlessly. I have both carbine and mid-length gas-systems on 5.56 and Grendels, all are standard M-16 bolt carriers. The only drawback is the extra weight but it isn't a lot. The smooth recoil will spoil you and you'll never go back. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - jfornelli - 12-25-2013 Very cool. I am going to have to get one for my 5.56 build because the sproing annoys me. I'm definitely going to get one for my grendel build now too, based on the comments here. Thanks, all. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - NightForce - 12-31-2013 Once I started using the JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring it became the standard buffer system for me. Even though they're a bit pricy, I've upgraded all my AR's to these and recommend them to anyone who I'm building one for.... JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - SG4247 - 12-31-2013 jfornelli Wrote:Anyone here use this spring? I'd like to know if you ended up ordering/needing the additional spring pack to customize the setup...? I have four silent springs in AR rifles that I own, in nearly every caliber - including Grendel. I bought the silent spring "tuners" spring pack from JP when the recoil seemed higher than normal on a AR-10 in .308. This rifle and and silent spring had roughly 1400 rounds on it. The stiffest spring in the spring pack was in fact the same color as the one that came on the Silent Spring originally. When I compared the two like springs, the old original spring was much (inches) shorter than the replacement spring of the same color. I put in the new spring in the rifle, and marked the old one as "Do not use" because it is definitely worn out. Rifle worked great with new spring installed. Bottom line: 1. Spring pack is expensive, and does not have any springs stiffer that what you get when you buys the SS assembly. 2. The silent springs themselves are tiny compared to original design AR buffer springs and they do fatigue and weaken during use. 3. If you have the nerve to change springs on the SS assembly, it requires torch heat on the special captured washer screw - to melt the loctite used at assembly. It is very easy to strip out the screw. This little screw is very special, and cannot be purchased just anywhere. Be careful. Hope that helps! JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - LRRPF52 - 01-01-2014 Standard AR15 recoil springs need to be replaced periodically as well. It was one of the main things we had to check when doing PMCS on weapons in the Army, although many people with military service won't recall this because very few units actually follow the PMCS by the book. For those that did, just mentioning PMCS will cause many to withdraw into a catatonic state. I shot a complete JP Rifle last week while running a carbine course up in the mountains at a club range. It is a very smooth-feeling system for certain. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - Michael - 01-01-2014 LRRPF52 Wrote:Standard AR15 recoil springs need to be replaced periodically as well. For those that did, just mentioning PMCS will cause many to withdraw into a catatonic state. Um...Uh...guess it is true. Catatonia reached. In all seriousness, all of the springs fail…magazine, buffer, extractor...even the ejection port cover spring. I keep shot-logs for most of my weapons (not super anal, +/- 100 rds or so) and when they hit 1000- round increments, I do a detailed check of all parts, paying particular attention to spring tension and length. When in doubt, I replace. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - LRRPF52 - 01-01-2014 Kyle Lamb and Mike Panone recommend changing ejector and extractor springs every 2000-4000 rounds, and inspecting your recoil spring at the same time. If you need a new ejector spring, when you remove yours from the bolt, you can replace it with your selector detent spring, because they are one in the same. Not all ejector springs are created equally though. If you switch them, color your selector spring so that you know it's used. The more important thing is really cleaning out the ejector channel of all the brass shavings, carbon, and grime. Once enough of that crap builds up in the channel, it doesn't matter what type of unobtanium alloy your spring is, it can't compress or expand normally. There are also extra power extractor springs on the market from Wolff. I suspect that the AR10 needs a stronger ejection port door spring, because I have had stovepipes if I fire from the port door closed. I noticed that H&K used plastic ejection port doors on their AR's, and there is a reason for that. Maybe it was easier for them to produce that way, but I'm wondering of they did it to reduce mass of the door to increase opening speed to clear the ejection pattern. You should also visually inspect your gas rings on the bolt, as well as the bolt face, lugs, cam pin hole, and bolt surface for any cracks, pitting, or flakes. JP Enterprises Silent Capture Spring - GMinor - 01-01-2014 You can get your self a set of CS springs, and never worry about them again... Extractor, ejector and buffer would run you $40-50, and last you, your kids, and your grandkids the rest of their life.. Rated for Five hundred thousand (500,000) compression cycles at maximum performance... Since they have such a good product and the price they are, wonder if it is of this quality and not the $4 buffer spring. |
