Newbie to the site. Newbie to the Grendel also. I'm currently n the process of building mine. I would like to know if anyone has any input for the Horus scopes? Good bad ugly. I like the retical but can't find to much info on the falcon online. Besides on Hours Vision website. So any hands on experience in regards to this family of scopes will be useful in my search for optics.
I have 20in Satern barrel, vltor upper so far and working on the rest.
Looking to get out to a 1000yd.

Just remember to compare in person to other scopes.
IMHO that reticle sucks.

I should have said I like the idea behind the reticle but have not used one. I see warped point on to too busy.
Should I save some coin and go with a Vortex? Or is that Apple to oranges comparo being one is $845 and the other is $1500 do you really get what you pay for? ????

I kinda like the idea, but like warped said I think that reticle would be information overload and might actually obstuct the target with that many lines.

I have been using Horus Vision scopes for 7 years now mainly for prarrie dogs. My scopes are the old H1 and H2 reticles USMC version. Yes the reticle was quite busy at first but now that I am used to it I refuse to use dialupscopes. Mine are the older 30mm one piece steel tube 4 X 16 x 50. The newer thin line reticle covers less of the view & has 5 X 20 X 50.
for $750. All I do is verify my zero, use the palm pilot a-trax and have fun. Of course a ballistic program printout taped to stock is all I need beside rangeing the target.

I've used the Horus Vision reticles in a few scopes, and while they are ok for static positions where time is of no concern for you, they're ok. For my application, where time is extremely critical, they are a non-starter, especially at distance. You get lost really quick when you're looking at 7.2 Mils of elevation, and 2.3 Mils of windage, take the shot, need to correct...wait where's the 7.2 increment...ok....what windage was I on? How much did I need to come left from that?...It just spirals downhill from there.
I am a firm believer in simple reticles with a clear, center point of aim with fine lines to delineate the aiming point with. If all you will do is sit at a bench and shoot groups at various distances, I would still recommend a rugged, target knob-equipped scope with solid gears. Once you're dialed to elevation and windage, which is easy to do quickly once you spend time with your scope, you can use the same aiming point every time, and make better corrections for wind.

For me it will always be a Leuopld my reasoning is they make a fine product, the cost to change reticles is a skimpy $65.00 Custom BDC dials for any caliber, any load, any range ...also $65.00 want all 3 at once ...3 week wait
and.... I live about 50 miles away.. what sold me was the customer service.. I took my scope in replaced the varmint reticle with a custom ..many available... when it was done, 3 weeks i went to pick it up.. i was greeted by the technician who did the work to my scope, he was patient, and explained every detail of the scope, demonstrated was very patient
it was obvious that he loved his job, and I expect most do .. absolutely outstanding I asked what issues to expect if I mounted that scope on a different caliber / gun.. his answer was "call me, Ill make you BDC caps for any caliber you want Just that easy my VX3 is mounted on Larue quick release mount. so flip the latches, screw on new BDC caps Zero
and go... SO this week I am ordering caps for a 7mm rem mag

Ziess conquest Rapid Z reticle in 600,800,1000, ranges follow the online directions to the T and you will be impressed. If you don't like the program you can use it as mil dot. But I doubt you will. Glass is top notch as is the warranty, They keep there value and you can trade up in a couple years if you get tired of it.IMHO.

I've had a Horus scope fall apart on me - literally. An internal lens in front of the reticle literally fell out of position and was rattling inside the scope. Luckily this happened at the range, not during the hunting trip I was going on. I wouldn't touch one of their older models again. Since it was outside of their 1 year warranty, they provided a $200 credit towards another scope - yeah.
Their new HDMR scope is pretty impressive and is now made by Bushnell with (I believe) a real US warranty and repair service. The old ones were made by Hakko in Japan. I really like their reticles and hope they get a good manufacturing partner that can produce a quality product and support it.
I'll probably take advantage of the $200 credit when I see a sale on the HDMR.

I have had the Hawk which i ordered with the Palm Pilot and a-trag program, worked very well. I love the ballistic program. I gave that one to my father in law and bought the Falcon. Works good but i wish the glass was as good as my ACOG or Leica. You can get Horus reticle in Leupold i believe. I am happy with mine. Can use ATRAG with all my stuff. Zeroed at 100 yds. had first round hits to 600 using program first time out, with AA 123 Lapua Scenar.
