I guess we are all suspects now even before we do anything wrong. This is not an America I know anymore.

I have a friend that doesn't buy gun related things with a credit card for this reason. This is scary.

Bush opened a pandora's box but at the time I believed they were tracking phones and such of those that were suspects. Now it seems it is expanded to anybody they want and even just blanket everybody searching for words, patterns, etc.

I see why NSA needed that huge database in Utah now.

Among media/big money manipulation of "two party" shadow play, proprietary electronic voting software, and the sheer gullibility of voters, there will be no redress at the ballot box.

I'm not saying there aren't problemsthis is a human endeavor and that means fallible. There were voting problems early in our Republic, but that doesn't mean throw out the Republic.

The main problem is citizen apathy. This is compounded by media bias (which is nothing new in our Republic).

Conservatives tend to play by the rules more than progressivesand the progressives have fully embraced the Alinsky model of deception (i.e. Pravda).

I believe there can be redress at the ballot boxthere are many instances of conservative success there but they followed grass root activity by conservatives.

In practical terms, a three party system won't work. It's been tried with the modern results of electing "progressives" because conservatives were divided. We don't need more of that. We need to put up real conservatives on the ballot (not crackpots) and elect themI'd prefer more conservatives like Ted Cruz. He was the underdog within the Texas Republican party and beat the big money political machine candidate.

Stalin was wrong in the long runhe was only right for a short blink in history. Lenin won the votes initially, then embarked upon gun barrel politics once he gained control of the guns.

There will be some politicians who won't be held accountable for this NSA debacle because their constituents either buy into the Alinsky deception, are apathetic and don't care, or they are true progressives. Southern California comes to mind, as well as vast expanses of Oregon, Washington and the East Coast.

W may have kicked off this project at the NSA, but Obama certainly knew about it and did nothing to stop it (in fact, he greatly expanded it). That makes him complicit with it no matter the veracity of protests from his regime.

Put pressure on the rest of Congress and this can get turned around.

I, for one, haven't given up on this great adventure of our Founding Fathersit is still the greatest country in the world, warts and all. Let's work on the warts.

For any nation to succeed (by objective measures of decency), a virtuous citizenry is necessary.

I don't see that in our nation.

I expect that some decent people will survive the cataclysms and chastisements ahead, but already this nation would be unrecognizable to the Founders. For that matter, this nation is unrecognizable to me—except as a George Orwell novel.

but I agree completely.

Barring blips, I suspect that we will continue to lose ground. Where the counters are reasonably honest, the outcome is still open. Anyplace where the left is entrenched, it's over. THEY will count the votes, and wherever THEY do, THEY win, whether in the first ballot or the twentieth, or after they find ten thousand ballots in a car trunk somewhere.

The left-right-middle game is an old trick to move masses in a planned direction. Lately it goes by Problem-Reaction-Solution. Before that it was Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis. Older still, the pillars of gevurah, chesed, and tiferet.

This is one reason that I advocate objective standards. Look how far off course subjectivism and exceptionalism have taken us.

For some serious perspective, read the platform planks in The Communist Manifesto and then recall what "right wing" Republicans support—even take for granted—these days.

Yes, I will call (and write) my congressman to express my outrage and DEMAND action. I will also complain to Google etc. And while I use Verision now, that will change. Not that I think other phone companies haven't knuckled under; it's that(if) I can boycott those that do this I will.

I didn't say anything about supporting "right wing" RepublicansI said we should support true conservatives.

At one point in time I supported a conservative candidate regardless of partynow I won't vote for anyone associated with Democrat Party since it only empowers people like Reid and Pelosi.

I believe there is still hope for the Republican Party...

The challenge ahead is to wake people up to the fact that they have traded privacy for "security" and then get them to act in order to get the political machines to restore privacy (since the courts don't seem to be doing this).

Many members in Congress (both parties) are "alarmed"LOLwell, maybe some of them are truly alarmed but I'm guessing that a good number are just feigning alarm after their hand was caught in the cooke jar. This is a good time to leverage the exposures and pressure Congress to repeal some of these intrusive bills.

On another note, I wonder what Piers Morgan is thinking now after he belittled all the 2A supporters he brought on his show who expressed alarm at our government

The Stasi (secret police) in East Germany did not need technology to monitor people. They used informers. Everyone informed on everyone else.

Technology has its limits. And we now have a college educated population that does not want to do mindless work (ie watching cameras) but does not trust the uneducated. And no one trusts anyone else these days. We have created an educated class that does not trust the masses, does not like the masses. They would prefer very stupid people (ie Mexicans with a 3rd grade education) that they can control. Basically it is a system that can not be sustained and will cave in on itself.

The left has done a great job in confusing labels. By the left's definition, Leftwing is hardcore communism, rightwing is fascism and the middle is socialism or progressivism (regressivism?). It leaves no place for conservatives who believe in freedom nor does it allow for libertarians (who the left sees as mentally ill).

A better model would be total control at the far left and total individualism to the far right (near anarchy). In the middle would be progressivism (a form a fascism mixed neo paganism) to the left center and conservativism (firm belief in individual rights with a some social control) to the right center.

The best model measures in three axis. But is too complex for most people.

Anarchy would be wonderful. People have been brainwashed by government schools and propaganda that it is evil and chaos. Read some Hans Herman Hoppe, Murray Rothbard and Lew Rockwell. A benevolent monarchy would be tolerable. The welfare warfare State needs to go away.
I do know what life was like under the CCCP. I have a number of friends from Eastern Europe. The very same Eastern Europe (Hungary and Romania) the West cheerfully handed over to the Soviets. How nice. My friends had the choice of immigrating to the US or Switzerland through a Church program. They are sorry they didn't choose Switzerland.
Back to the topic, I know I've said this before, Dubbya and Company built a nice turn key police state to hand over to the Demonrats. The State never gives up power once it has it. Can anybody cite an example of the FedGov doing such? I will never waste my time voting Republican again after their treatment of Ron Paul. The Trotskyite-neocon warmonger bankster puppets can have it. The best thing that could happen to us tax cattle would be the Union breaking up and the states going their separate ways.

Anarchy means that we have rule by the strongest. Get 40 friends together, arm them and you rule the neighborhood. A true democracy is a lynch mob, everyone gets a vote including the guy who was hung.

Frankly most of the fascism (communism in Russia and China became fascist with private, ie cronies, ownership) is what is left of collectivism. And Progressivism (regressivism) is pure fascism mixed in with a lot of neo-paganism. Both collectivism and Progressivism came out of the early 1800s. They are a product of the Industrial Age. They are dying, most likely to be replaced by Islam as the dominate ideology in the world.

But then most of the Industrial Age institutions are dying. Just look at the Protestant Church, both mainstream and fundamentalist. They are dying, losing their kids. The Catholic churches (that includes Eastern Orthodox) are surviving but not growing. What is growing is Evangelicals (they are not protestant) and Islam.

And with technology, the mechanical age was perfected in the 1960s. Then immediately replaced by the silicon technology with the advent of Integrated Circuits (IC) in the 1970s. Now most controls is silicon based, not mechanically based. The last vestige of the mechanical technology is firearms. Once we perfect the gun, with GEN III battle rifles and a General Purpose Cartridge (GPC), watch for firearms to be replaced as well.

I know there are Beck haters on this board, but he did a very, very good blackboard presentation on this dynamic back when he was working on his "Overton Window" book. Took me a bit of research on the parties involved, but it looks to be about right and covers all of the axes.

As for where we are in the cycle, I'd say pretty far down, and a good halfway to the right. Somewhere around Italy, say, 1923ish. They haven't yet started murdering the opposition, only destroying their reputations and lives.
