built a rifle with a stoner .223 wylde 18" and it was a shooter, couldnt tell ya about the Grrr barrels though

What country are they made in? What chamber do they use? We just saw a post recently where the Stoner barrel wouldn't extract AA 120gr NBT ammunition, so it can't be a Grendel chamber.

+1 on lr52. I bought the barrel under the impression that they were shaw, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy another one, as they could very well be made in a foreign country. I may email midway and see what info I can get.

I purchased my 16" AA Grendel barrel and bolt back in 2009 I think, for $269. It is an actual barrel and bolt made by AA, from an ER Shaw blank. It eats every AA factory load I have shot through it, Hornady factory 123gr AMAX, Precision Firearms factory 123gr Scenars, all my hand loads to-date (123gr Scenar, 100gr NBT, 129gr SST, 120gr SMK, 123gr AMAX, etc.) and even eats the crappy 123gr Wolf Gold Soft Point.
I have never had a Failure To Extract or Eject.

The three Reviews on the Midway page seem to be mostly very positive....
It does say in the Review section that its an "LBC chamber" yet the barrel is advertised as a Grendel. Not sure what to think anymore.... is this good or bad?

The 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip has more of a conventional ogive, so it will engage traditional lands earlier if the leade is shorter, whereas the compound throat of the Grendel allows it to be seated out further. That still doesn't explain why he had FTExtract after firing, because the projectile is gone at that point. FTEx indicates something else is going on, but he also had a hard time extracting unfired AA-loaded 120gr NBT, which points back to the lands engaging the ogive, or a really tight neck.
I ordered my 16" Barrel/bolt kit from Midway when they carried them. Even back in 2009, you had to be on the notify me list to stand a chance at getting a 16" or 18" AA barrel/bolt combo, and if you weren't on your email at the time, you were out of luck.

I bought the 18" version from midway last year and while it consistently shoots moa, I'm having extraction problems with the AA Nosler and Scenar ammo. I did figure out today that the AA 129 Hornady SST's seem to extract with no issues, so I can use them for hunting and use the amax's (no issues) for target shooting or hunting if need be. It still irks me that some ammo works and some cause problems, especially when the barrel is clearly stamped 6.5 Grendel. Plus with 20+ positive reviews for AR Stoner and not one mention of anyone else having extraction issues. If it weren't for bad luck..
Eventually if things calm down I will order a better quality barrel, but for now I can still use this one for hunting and like I mentioned, it really does shoot good.
Definitely get on the e-mail alert, I was able to get some ammo this way about two weeks ago. Good luck!

I learned from personal experience that you can't trust the displayed reviews as an indicator of the actual number of reviews for the AR-Stoner products at least.
I had an experience with a "Nickel Boron Bolt Carrier Group", and it turned out to be coated with something other than a true Nickel Boron plating, wearing off upon test-fitting. I posted my review of the defective product, and it was removed shortly thereafter. I wonder what country that one was made in now as well.
Trying to find out where a lot of those items are made is like asking where the Ark of the Covenant is, and you end up with no answers.

I just built a grendel using this barrel. It shoots the factory Hornady 123gn amax just fine and my 90 tnt hand loads great! I shot a 1/2 group at 100yrds with it the first day. Havnt had time to do much more work with it, but so far im very happy with it. From what I measured from the neck its a grendel chamber.
