I have a 24" overwatch.... It's too much barrel for what I really want, I am thinking about subtracting 4" and have a 20" barrel with a target crown, no muzzle device....so answer me this,
A. How many FPS will I lose if I trim 4".....120-123 gr bullets
B. Estimated weight savings? Med contour barrel
C. Should I be concerned about accuracy loss by trimming the barrel?

according to what ive read on here, you will probably lose 80-120 fps. Throwing a swag out, I would say you would shed 6-8 oz. Theoretically, the shorter barrel will be stiffer, therefore, more accurate. This is the answer ive gotten from several gunsmiths that ive asked. Hope this helps.

For Part A, see http://www.65grendel.com/forum/showthread.php?3007-Barrel-Length-and-Velocity&highlight=barrel+length+velocity. The plot shows that you would lose some, about 100 ft/sec, when reducting the barrel length from 24" to 20".
Part B, Several of the custom barrel makers have tools that help get this -- but it isn't a lot of weight.
Part C. There are two factors that will impact your accuracy. The first is important only if you are using iron sights and the front sight is on the barrel. In this case the sight radius is shortened. This is not likely a worry for you.
The second factor can be a surprise -- the slightly lower muzzle velocity increases wind drift by a little bit.
Bottom line for accuracy -- there should be no discernable impact when you are using opitical sights and are in any but the most competitive long range shooting games.

You will lose weight by cutting it short. You will lose feet per second and accuracy will suffer at greater distances.

Outsider, I think you are throwing your money away. Everything about that barrel was designed for 24".If you want a shorter barrel shop around for a factor short barrel In my option and mine only, if you shop around every where you can pick one up for $150.00 or a dollar higher or lower!
How does the 24" barrel shoot? Mine shoots AWESOME! But so does my 20" Both are AA Barrels. Do you reload? If so have you done a ladder test to find out where your node is for that 24" barrel? I never felt luckly but I think I did on my to Grendels
because my short barrel shoot just as good as my long barrel with the same load that I made up on a wimb???

Unless you are going to do the work yourself I think you would be better of buyin a new barrel in your desired length and selling you old barrel also you may run into problems shortening the barrel on an ar15 as the gas system may not work with the shortened barrel

I got a 20 from Bear and I am at 1/3moa with factory Lapua 123's from A.A......But that stick was $525 I think.

I really don't think cutting my barrel is the right thing for me to do.... All my weight seems to centered right around my 30 mm tube Leupold mark 4.... And one price Larue Tac base.... I got the rifle with the intention to make it my everything gun... But she is on the heavy side now.....woe suck to pack that thing around too much

You could lighten her up quite a bit with different furniture and maybe a different optic that I assume that large base is quick detach
