Hi folks, this is directed to all the grendel owners with the AA side charging billet upper. When I try to cycle the BCG into the rifle length buffer tube there is a ton of gritty resistence. I have a wolff Xtra power spring and standard rifle buffer in the tube. The BCG is the young national Match that is sold through AA. I can't figure out why there is so much resistence. Has this happened to anyone else?

side charging puts a little torque on the bcg compared to using the charging handle which would compound tny issue with being dirty try cleaning and lubing the entire action

In mine i have a standard rifle length buffer with a tubbs flat wire spring. I oiled down the tube itself inside and the spring. Mine cycles smooth. Im not sure what would cause it to be gritty. Have you got another spring laying around you could try?

mongoose, I did notice the bcg torques to the side a little bit but it gets to a certain point and becomes more difficult to pull all the way back. As far as another spring goes, I have nothing else to try. It definitely feels as though its the torquing that is causing the most trouble.

Check and see if the bolt handle is rubbing against the groove in the upper.

How does it feel when you charge it using the rear charging handle?

The bolt handle is not ubbing but the carrier is rubbing in several spots as well as the gas key. This build is not complete yet so I took the charging handle from my carbine and that seemd to work noticeably better. Like you said, it took away the ability to torque in the receiver. I didn't want to lube it too much since I am going to duracoat it next week but what oil I did use made a huge difference. Its like the AA(mega) upper has a wee too much material on the bearing surfaces. Any suggestions on how to polish the inside of the upper?

Shoot it! The more you shoot it, the more polished it will get!
