Oh my goodness or oh em gee as my 17 year old daughter would say.. I just ordered my (first <grin>) complete Grendel upper from Alexandria Arms.. My choice was the 19.5 Advanced Weapons System complete upper.. I know I give up as much as 100 fps with the shorter barrel, but my experience with bench rest has taught me to go with a 20 barrel to minimize harmonics, and that is what I did.. We will see the wisdom of my choice..
Now we have to sit and wait.. With the upper, I tried to order 400 rounds of ammo I figure since I reload, thats probably all I will need for the foreseeable future.. I didnt have a photo ID I could upload handy so the ammo order will have to wait until tomorrow when I can get one..
What is the wait time on a 19.5 AWS upper?? 4 to 6 weeks??
Its funny.. I have had a birch wood* AR 15 stock set on order since the beginning of Feb.. At that time I was told it would be about 3 weeks.. Then at the end of March, I was told it would be a week or two more..
I once waited over 2 years for some custom gun work to be performed on a custom rifle.. But when you want a good smith, sometimes you just have to wait.. {P.S. that one is a very custom 1948 Win 70 action with a BlackStar Accumax II barrel chambered for 280 AI.. It took about 1 year and lots of phone conversations before I could get Lothar-Walther (the barrel blank maker) to match the pre-64 Winchester barrel profile with the dog knot.. It is all fitted into a McMillan stock, bedded at McMillan.. It is a real shooter, but what gets me is the MV I am getting out of it.. With case forming loads and 140 grain bullets, I am getting 7mm mag velocities.. It is unbelievable..}

* The blonde wood furniture set will contrast nicely against the black Colt HBAR for which the wood set was ordered.. Personally I think it is going to look pretty sharp..

Great! I think you'll like it, a friend of mine got the advanced weapons system rifle and he loves it! Made me want to get a Grendel, too, so I ordered an Entry complete upper about 6 weeks ago. Got an Email recently saying that the wait would be closer to 8 weeks, so I have about 2 weeks to go. I am anxious to get it in, I built my lower about 2 weeks ago and have it ready to go. Hope you enjoy it as much as I think you will.

I wonder what the wait time is on the 17 HMR AA sells.. I may have to pick one of those up while I wait for the Grendel <grin>..
Got a gun show in San Anton this weekend, and they often have a lot of black rifle stuff.. Is anyone from the list planning on attending??

Are you going with the Ironwood set, or the one from Precision? Looks especially good on an upper without FA.
I've been to that Live Oak show, once. It's pretty grim; IDK if that's the same bunch as went to the Shriner's center, but not many vendors/interesting stuff and very $.

Try the gun shows up here.. With Ft.Hood in the neighborhood, one would think the gun shows would be great.. At the show in Belton, even if you take your time you are still done in < 2 hours, and 6 bucks to walk in the door.. Lots of non-gun garbage, and prices like everything is going to be banned tomorrow.. I don't think I have ever bought anything at the Belton show..
Went to the Austin show out near Decker lake a couple of months back.. What a bummer that was.. Made me feel better about the Belton show <grin>.. Who ever thought putting a Gun show in an indoor sports area would be a good idea.. At least the prices there was a little bit better.. Still most of the stuff was way over priced..
I am getting the Ironwood A2 set, if it ever comes it <grin> (I need to give Matt a call this week)..
The stock set will most likely go on my Colt HBAR; it's my only rifle length AR without a float fore end..
I'll post some pictures here when it finally comes in..

I ordered and a 6.5 Grendel entry complete on the 19th of April. I built a Palmetto lower with a Geissele SSA trigger. Ordered a few mags and some Hornady 6.5 Grendel 123gr A-Max Boat Tail. Can't wait to get out and try it out.

No, just did online order, new it would take a while. Just excited to add 6.5 to the arsenal. Still deciding which optic to buy.

My experience so far with the Grendel is more like 18fps per inch of barrel. I duplicated some AA loads and ran them through my 16", and the difference was 18fps per inch compared to a 24" barrel. I think the 18 and 20" Grendels are a great middle ground.

I called AA today just for an idea about shipping, 8 weeks for uppers and complete rifles. Can't wait for my upper, but I will. Just have to spend time with my RRA LAR 8 and SCAR 17 until my upper arrives.

Ya Hoo!! Just got word from Matt at Ironwood Designs.. My birch A2 stock set will be shipped out on Saturday, and I should have it mid next week..
Now my big problem is going to be not letting my wife see it.. Because I am sure once she sees it she will claim it as hers.. I don't worry about my youngest daughter.. She claims all of my guns are hers <grin>.. flk k

haha i have the same problem i already lost 2 of my best shooters to my wife and daughter but i guess thats good since they like to shoot its easier to talk them into the fact that i NEED more guns

I use the same line but but my wife still growls at me.
She is much more optimistic than I am.

I told her it's just a shame my daughter won't be able to take it to school for show and tell when she's old enough!
See--- I actually met her half way there and she didn't even know it...
Her Optimism: this presumes there will still be a .gov school for show and tell that prohibits firearms...
My pessimism: I hope we are still intact and able to send our daughter to a school...
Bonus points: I hope she doesn't actually need the carbine on her way to and from school...

The best answer I ever heard to the "why do you need another gun??" is "why do you need another pair of shoes??"
Of course if you find the right woman or just stay single, you never are confronted with that silly question..

My wife never ask why do I need another gun because she knows she gets something she wants too. Not a cheap proposition but it keeps the peace.

Keeping the peace is a lot cheaper than the alternative. My wife tolerates my toys and I don't complain about hers to often.
