I just counted all my Grendel mags, which include:
2000s-era CProducts 4, 10, and 17rd straight body mags (the 17rd straight body mag was never supposed to be produced or sold, but was done anyway by CProducts after they didnt meet AA reliability specs)
2013-2017 Elanders (10rd, 17rd, and 25rd)
Amend2 Polymer 10rd
20teens ASC 25rd
2020 purchased ASC 25rd
I havent modified any of them. I shoot mostly the 17rd and 25rd mags, with the 10rd Amend2 here and there.
I do modify my feed ramps with de-edging, blending, and polishing. I also make sure the ejectors dont bind against right side presentation feed cartridges with a chamfer.
If the mags dont have the correct feed lip and follower geometry, Im not interested in them.
There was one I had to modify for a guy who I did a MARPAT Desert Cerakote job for back in 2011.
I didnt realize one of the feed lips was not symmetrical until I had already began Cerakote work on it.

Other than that, Iver never messed with AR Grendel magazine mods. I did window my Howas little polymer mag to allow longer COL.
I shoot the Grendels a lot, and have multiple different types of receiver sets and magazine combos to use.
I like the 25rd ASC mags the most in the 12, unless shooting off a bench that doesnt allow clearance, then I use the 10rd or 17rd mags.

ASC's are hit or miss. Having feed lips on them that are too high is a common problem. I've had 7 like that ....

What years did you buy them?
Ive noticed a difference in their overall fit/feel, and consistency over the past few years. I used to steer away from them, but the more recent ones I bought are more refined and well-made.

I bought 3 ASC 25 round Mags in 2019 and all three the forward edge caught the neck of the case, that's why I modified the forward edge of the mag. I also experienced a bad dent where the shoulder met the body of the case, which I am pretty sure resulted in my wolf ammo rupturing at that section. That's the reason I removed material. In the pic you can see the aggressive shelf on either side of the forward feed lips. This edge forces the round towards the middle of the magazine and aligns it with the feed ramps. That hard edge puts a nice gouge in the "brass" in the case of the wolf ammo rupture "steel".

Nice Cerakote job. Did you air brush it on or use normal HVLP gravity feed gun?

I have been chasing that dent in the brass for a while not. I started a tread about it a while back but we never came up with that little edge being the issue. My brass gets the dent preshot after loading but is pretty much fire formed out after the shot. Rounds loaded and then unloaded without firing show it. What was the mod you did on your mag?

I removed that ledge with a Dremel and the long pink sading stone then followed up with the 220 grit sanding wheels feeds better now by handcycling. Still haven't shot it again kinda busy. The top pics are what you can see what I removed from my mags.

U kno I thot I was the onlyone... that experienced this coz I searched the interneck for a while and couldn't find anything about brass having a sharp dent on the shoulder to neck area. Thanks for the reply

A lot of the scratches and dents on 6.5 Grendel brass come from the sharp barrel extensions on new rifles. After 6.5 Grendel AR-15s are shot the sharp edges on the barrel extension are worn down by the brass cases. Granted magazine feed lips can scratch brass but with use the scratches from magazines and barrel extensions become less noticeable on the brass. The larger case diameter of the 6.5 Grendel always appeared to show the scratches and dings more than my 5.56 AR-15s.
There are forum members who smooth out the sharp barrel extensions to improve reliability and save wear and tear on their brass.

I de-edge, blend, and polish barrel extensions, unless theyve been tumble-polished in the manufacturing process.
That seems to be more of a thing lately. I just got a 14.5 Grendel barrel from Rexus/SixFive Outfitters and it has been tumble-polished, all sharp edges removed.
The Lilja group buy barrels in 2014 used BAT extensions if I recall, and they were nicely polished as well.
I just dont see dents on my cartridges.

I have put about 2K rounds thru this barrel. SS has a really high hardness score I think this thing will last a really long time. so, that being said I took a minifile to the lugs to soften em up a bit. Remember fellas the file only werx in one direction. :p

I've never heard of that. I need to see if someone in my area can do that. I have a rifling groove that extends into the chamber a littler to far to the shoulder area I wonder if someone might be able to do that and the tumble polish as well

I did some mag work yesterday morning after putting the turkey in the oven. I took the sides in a bit the way you did and tested by pushing the out manually. Definitely looked like it made a difference. Took down the front edge as well on a couple that I had not done that on so the brass wouldnt catch on it while feeding.

I went to the range Saturday and everything worked great no more rupturing the steel ammo and no more dents in the shoulder ran about 175 rnds thru it one stove pipe and the steel case forgetaboutit coz even tho the case wasn't rupturing the primer wasn't being struck with enough firing pin coz I trimmed it a lil bit for the protrusion was .0445 and I trimmed it down to .033 naw I wish I didnt modify the firing pin oh well just gotta git another one I guess any one have luck with the enhanced 7.62x39 firing pin looking at maybe getting that.
