hey guys i got a box of these hornady 129 interlock bullets just layin around...i got them for the creedmoor but never used them
so i thought i would try them in the grendel
i picked up a jug of BLC2 the other day and i got some varget and h4895 and cfe223 and some ar-comp
i am gona start with the BLC2..i would like to get these things flying around 23-2400fps...i read that they will work down to around 1800fps
any you guys got any pet loads with these bullets?? have you hunted with them?? i think i want to get something worked up to use on deer this fall maybe
i got some stuff put together with the BLC2 ...28gr-28.5gr-29gr and that is about a gr under max according to the hornady book...waiting on the weather ..gona be in the mid 90's today but later in the week it is supossed to cool down more like fall temps
could be a real nice deer bullet out to 200 if i can keep the speed up...most shots around here are under 100 so it should work out just fine

Are you working with a bolt or gas gun? what is your barrel length?
My first propellant choice for the 129 gr fb sp is not on your list. LVR is king for the 129 gr SP in my experience in a bolt gun. Start low with CFE 223 data & work up would be my approach. CFE 223 would be my 2nd choice.

The Hornady 8th edition manual uses a 14.5 barrel and shows a max load of 29.5 grains BLc2 for 2350 FPS. Depending on barrel length I think you can get a useable load with BLc2. Ive only used one pound of BLc2 a few years ago in testing with 5.56 and 6.5 Grendel. I got decent accuracy but you read where people complain about BLc2 being dirty.

This is a 18" gas gun
My hornady manual is 10...and looks like the max is 29.5 in it too so I guess I am .5 grain under max
I would like to try LVR..if I can find some

The only info is from testing done by forum members but CFE223 and LeveRevolution powder are very similar and many shooters use CFE223 data for LeverRevolution. Since Hornady and Alexander Arms worked to get the 6.5 Grendel SAAMI certified other manufacturers have not done much load testing for the 6.5 Grendel as other cartridges. There are several suitable powders under Hodgdon ownership that have never been tested for the 6.5 Grendel. Alliant Powders hasnt released any data for the 6.5 Grendel except for Speer bullets. Nosler, Shooters World and Sierra have decent data for 6.5 Grendel but still no data for LeveRevolution or AR Comp. Western Powders had good data for the 6.5 Grendel but no bullets over 123 grains and Western was absorbed by Hodgdon.

well i know Zen likes LVR so maybe he will stop by with some start data for that..and maybe you have some numbers??
are you saying to use cfe223 data for the LVR??? start low and come up as always...i am assuming LVR is leverevolution powder...correct??
my local gun store has in the last month gotten a lot of stuff on the shelf...lots of powder and primers..i took a pic of all they had so i could come home to see what i could use....BLC2 was about all they had...didnt see any LVR...but i will keep looking and for sure give it a try

I have used a lot of BLc2 and if loaded to 50K psi I haven't noticed it being any dirtier than LVR. I have found it to provide reasonable velocities and very good accuracy.

Hornady has the 129gr Interbond, 129gr SST, 129gr SP, and 130gr ELD-M bundled together.
The 129gr SP is shorter and has a flat base, so you can generally get a little more powder under it for a bit faster mv, though it doesnt retain momentum as well as the others with their higher BCs.
Doesnt really matter much for typical hunting distances because it still has a decent mid- .4s BC.
From an 18, you should have no problem reaching over 2400fps with CFE223 or Leverevolution.
If you have MLGS gas port location, you will want to know your port diameter and might need to choke it to get the maximum velocities.
At 2410fps mv, you have:
350yds 1805fps 933ft-lbs
At 2350fps mv:
325yds 1802fps 930ft-lbs
Due to the SP design, these bullets impact with a pretty loud wallop. Its a great basic soft point hunting bullet that isnt pushed too fast, and has plenty of tail-end to plow through for deep penetration. Depending on impact speed/distance, you may or may not see an exit with broadside shots, but internal damage will be significant.
You might be surprised with its accuracy due to the flat base design.
Start at 29.0gr of CFE223 and work up to 30.7gr.
Dont go above 31.0gr of Leverevolution.
Find your COL that will reliably mag-feed and not jam the lands. If you find yourself able to load longer than 2.260, you can get a little more powder in, but Im not sure it will do much for you. You can see how it performs already even at 2360fps.

my rifle has a FLGS...dont know if that will change anything very much
i had the BLc2 loads i put together and i shot them yesterday...i wasnt impressed to much...so i put together some with H4895...and later today i am going to put some together with Varget
i have some CFE223 that is next in line...i have never had real great success with ball powders...but i will keep plugging
yes this flat based bullet should work out really good...most ranges i will be using it at here at my farm will be under 150....and that would be a long one....most shots would probably be inside 100...for the hay field stuff i would use something different...even then i want to close the gap to 200 or less if i can
i just like the grendel...lol...i want to have as many options for it as i can...i have the hornady 95gr stuff doing well and the sierra 105gr stuff really doing well and i also have the 120gr prohunter bullets working really good too...i just had this box of bullets sitting around and thought i would give them a shot in the grendel...if i can get them to shoot... great...and i will get more...if i cant get them to shoot...well i had fun trying....but i bet i can get them running...i like playing with this kind of stuff
so are you guys saying ....that if i can find some LVR i should use the CFE223 load data??? my hornady manual takes CFE223 to 31.7....you said stop at 31 with LVR..ok...next is to find some...im sure i can do that
i may load the CFE next instead of the Varget...
originally i wanted to be above 2300 fps but after looking at your down range stuff i think if i can keep them above or around 2200 fps should be just fine for my use....i will get them to group and then see how fast then are running...lol...but i still want 2400 if i can get there...lmao
