Best Factory Ammo Proof CF Barrel - Snowboardrx3 - 05-04-2023

Just built a 6.5 Grendel AR with an 18” Proof Research Carbon Fiber barrel. Looking for suggestions on what factory ammo groups best with this barrel. Will be used for hunting 100-400yds. I have some Hornady 123gr SST that produces decent groupings.

There isn't a whole lot of variety in factory hunting ammo at the moment. You could try the Hornady ELD-M, PPU 120 grain, Barnes 115 grain and see if any of those do better than the SST. I think there are some Nosler loads floating around too. Are you hunting hogs or what?

I wouldn’t hesitate using Hornady 123 ELD-M on Hogs or Dogs, especially with the Grendel's limited velocity. Of course, shot placement is everything! Cool

I had the 24” proof carbon barrel and it did about 2.5” 3-shot groups at 500 yards with hornady black no problem. It was fast too, 2605 fps. We kill everything in Alberta with that ammo so pretty sure hogs will go down just fine.
