NW MI jumping in - B 13 - 04-20-2023
New 6.5 Grendel shooter, from North West Michigan. New to this forum as a user, I have picked up pieces from it over the years but never dove in. Recently completed an AR build with my 2 sons and soon realized we were missing out on this magic you call the 6.5 Grendel! That has led to a great trip down this rabbit hole, with more parts for a second 6.5G (bolt gun) in transit as I type. I am looking forward to learning more about this great round and gaining knowledge from those who have more experience with it than I.

just_john, I started with an AR build with my 2 sons, something they can hunt and range bang with. Went AR for the adjustability, as they are 8 years apart and definitely have different fit requirements at this point. I quickly realized that a light weight bolt rifle would be the perfect packing rig for when I am still hunting the woods around here (mostly done with my pistol). That project is almost complete. I would like to pick up load info and data for developing loads for both guns and learn what is working, or not working, for other Grendel shooters.

Good on ya for getting the kids into shooting! It is time with their dad/mom (whichever you are!) they will remember and cherish.
What barrel lengths are you building? A short, handy Grendel is a perfect ticket for Michigan whitetails, and even bears.
NW Michigan as in UP or LP? Both are wonderful in their own ways.

We are LP.
Both rifles are 20" 8 twist. Either will do great here for whitetail or black bears. Unfortunately its going to be a while until any of us have points to draw again, at least for our area. My older son got a nice bear with his bow in '21 with my transferred points.
