140 grain Federal Fusion bonded soft point using a Ruger American Preditor and AA2520 - grendelnubi - 03-09-2023
Recently purchase pulled Federal Fusion 140 grain projectiles with intention of using them in my creedmoor but also decided to see how they performed in my RAP. This will be used for hunting only.
The powder I chose was AA2520, it seems to be a very versatile powder for the Grendel and I have always experienced adequate velocities. I have also tried H335 with a 140 Speer 1441 projectile with slightly more velocity but decided to try AA2520 anyway.
The great thing about using a ball powder is I still had room to spare at max charge weight. Using my 2.29 COAL with 28.3 grains of powder it was measured to only contain 95% of case capacity. No pressure signs to speak of.
I ran a OCW using 3 shot groups from 27.1 to 28.3 in .3 increments. For what its worth (using three shot groups) I experienced single digit ES and SD numbers in every load I tested, with the last 28.3 load ES of 4 and SD of 2. I'll do more testing to verify actual numbers when I get a chance. The shot group was very good at .64" CTC (again using a 3 shot group).

Bullet length is 1.245 which is not far from the same length as the 123 SST.

Finished the load development on Monday, loaded up 20 for a hog hunt on Tuesday. Was fortunate to kill a 175lb boar at 116 yards (DTR). It was one of the loudest projectile impacts I have ever experienced. I believe this is going to be a good fit for the Grendel, even at the lower velocities I am experiencing.
