Hey there!
I'm currently on my second Grendel, overall happy with them, but with questions about both that led me to join here.
The first is an AR upper I traded into -- pretty sure it's a BCA based on the barrel nut/handguard. It used to give me just over an inch at 100 with Hornady Black, but when I tried to sight in at the start of deer season, that had doubled or tripled. I don't expect to turn a silk purse into a sows ear, but reliability under 1.5 would be great.
I scrubbed it well, then eliminated scope/mount as a possible cause. When I pulled the free-float tube, I found an M-lock fastener had been slightly touching on the barrel, but removing it didn't solve the problem. I didn't see anything funky on the business end of.the barrel.
My next step, I think, will be to check torque on that barrel nut (have to order a tool). If it hasn't worked loose, what else should I be looking at?
The other is a Howa Mini with the heavy barrel. I bought it used in a Boyd's Pro-varmint stock. I'm loving the gun. I've never owned a rifle that shot as well as this one. But as I have it outfitted, it's a 9 lb. rifle. That's great on the bench, but I'd like to have a lighter and quicker handling (the flat right behind the safety throws me off).
To be clear, I'm not trying to build an ultralight rig, but taking 1.5 - 2 pounds off would be great, ideally on a budget. I'm pretty sure I can get somewhere in the 6-8 oz range by swapping scopes and rings. The Boyd's stock is listed at 2.85ish pounds and I haven't weighed it separately.
It looks like the cheapest way to grab an extra stock is buying a cast-off oem. Anyone know how much they weigh? I know a lot of folks think they're awful, but I haven't seen folks really saying why. Can anyone elaborate?

Welcome to the clan, Td, from the great nation of Texas! On your AR, pull the barrel and be sure that the nose of the receiver is flat and truely perpendicular to the axis of the barrel. A lot of forged uppers are not. It is a simple fix but makes an incredible difference. There are a lot of members from your neck of the woods so maybe one will offer a loan of the tool. Just as a matter of course, I true all my receivers before I put 'em together. For the bolt gun, I, too, have the Howa in an At-One Boyds stock. Way too heavy. Had issues with the wrist area vs arthritis but a dremel session fixed that. Don't know a good way to fix the overall weight. I have several other boyd's stocks and they don't have the same problems.
