Three AR Parts Should Be Standard - BluntForceTrauma - 12-31-2022 Have concluded that three basic AR part upgrades make a big difference. 1. If you get anything, get a better trigger. I use LaRue MBT-2S on all my builds as the best bang for the buck. Its maybe not THE absolute best, but, dang, for $90 you're 97% of the way there. I'm gonna start selling the Schmid two-stage, which is priced even better and is claimed to be just as good as, or even better than, the LaRue. 2. Ambidextrous safety. Even if you're not a lefty, this is a no-brainer. Charge your gun then immediately use your right knuckle to flip the ambi-safety on. Ready to fire? Use your thumb to rotate the lever to off safe. Try it and you won't go back. 3. Upgraded charging handle. Charging handle needs a balance between being bigger so you can get a good grip with either left or right hand, and yet being small like the mil-spec original to be out of the way. Aero Precision's BREACH model does it best for the money, is ambidextrous, comes in three colors, and plus has a gas-deflecting shelf. Use their Large Lever when you've got a big scope or big hands, and their Small Lever for all others. These three parts SHOULD be standard, but be that as it may, those who add them will greatly improve their operator experience. Starting to switch everything to Ambi Safety. Thanks for wading thru to vast assortment and marketing claims to endorse the Aero Breach. I like the Larue better than the Schmid, but I don't think there is a whole lot of difference between them in terms of trigger pull effort and accuracy potential. The big thing I notice different is that you can clearly feel the first stage of the Larue end and the start of the second phase, while the Schmid is much less obvious. I like the noticeable boundary between the stages especially when I am wearing gloves. That said, I think both are way better than the typical awful gummint trigger and the trigger feel is more a matter of preference than anything else. Yes it cost more but if you are willing to wait until special sales not a whole lot. As for everything else you stated spot on! One of the best features some companies have introduced is the ambidextrous bolt hold-open and release mechanism. The AR-15 for right-handers is really lacking in that area. ADM and SilencerCo have some pretty cool ones. Three AR Parts Should Be Standard - SDW - 01-20-2023 1. I'm a firm believer in a good trigger. I'm running a mix of Geissele and Larue on my ARs. 2. So far I only have an ambi safety on my one lower that has a goofy 'paddle' grip. I actually love the standard mil-spec safety on my other lowers. Your Schmid ambi safeties look like two sided mil-spec types. When will they be back in stock? 3. I'm too invested in Vltor/BCM Mod 4 charging handles at this point. I LOVE how they operate. I shoot purely right-handed though. I've never had to switch holds. So I don't think I'd appreciate an ambi charging handle under normal conditions.
