Well actually it was only one hog, but it made the title sound better to make it plural
Last night I caught this boar snooping around in the open. There was a bright moon and I didn't think I could close to him without being busted. As I was walking slowly towards him, he was walking towards me. At just the right time, the ground fog started setting in, making a pretty dense layer about 3 feet deep. I don't think he could see me through the fog, but I could see him (aren't thermal scopes great).
Got to about 75yds and had to do a kneeling shot to try and get steady.(golden years)
First shot, he ran right to left. Shot twice(missed) and he did a 180 and ran left to right. Shot twice and one of them hit him in the rear quarter. He stopped dead in his tracks, standing broadside to me and I whacked him in the left front shoulder,,,DRT.
I had forgotten to "un-zoom", and so the follow up action was crazy. If you've ever done that, you know what I mean. Lucky one of the shots got him. After the buzzards worked on him today, I found that the follow up shot broke his hip. 123 sst's chrono'd at 2525 avg.
Tonight I spotted a pair of coyote's working on the carcass. Bright moon again. Didn't think I would be able to get very close, but somehow they were busy enough not to run off. I'm sure they saw me. Got to a gate post 196 yds away from him,,,
(google map), and took a shot. Connected. He flopped around for about 15 seconds. 123 sst's chrono'd at 2525 avg again with a large exit right behind the shoulder. The other dog ran off, but a bit later came back. I managed to get a bit closer this time to a gate post 174 yds. (google map).
Same shot,,,DRT, no flop.
I've missed a couple shots at varmints lately,,,,this was a confidence builder for a shaky ole man. Hope I didn't bore yall with the "tale". Wish I had a video set up so I could do less typing
Now I have to see if I can remember how to attach the pics.Kill more hogs this coming year!!!! That will make it a,,,
